May also look into a koi angel or also known as a tri color angel. They can get pretty colorful at times especially if you can find a blushing koi angel mix.

I got blue angels from a local breeder, try and see if you can find someone in your area who breeds. They are really beautiful! I have a blue smokey and 2 blue silvers.

IMO, I wouldn't stock BP's and angels together, they can easily kill angels if you get a short tempered one. Plus they have a huge bipolar and get quite large, and I'm not sure if your tank would work well with that...but if you just get one and re-home it when it gets big (and they do get big-about the size of a football) and just keep an eye on them it should work out fine. But I think one more angel would be a better route, either way would work, but you won't have to re-home the angel unles it's mean. I got all my angels from Mellow Aquatics | The Best Freshwater Angelfish For Sale ... The blue one is in my avatar :) but if you want a stand out and colorful fish, the blood parrot is a good choice.

A Blood Parrot can't kill an Angel, they are hybrids so they cannot close their mouths. They are also pretty slow swimmers. Mine do fight occasionally but nothing more than lip locking with my Male Angel and I find it interesting to watch. And they grow extremely slow compared to most cichlids and a football?? That's monster! More like a softball.

Hybrid as you are using it is synonymous with inbred genetic deformity. Just voicing my opinion but this is about as humane as a puppy mill or say, inbreeding goldfish to the point their eyes swell until near blindness, or keeping a 2"betta in a shot glass at pet stores and accepting 80% losses. When purchasing or suggesting fish like these I would hope people take this into consideration as well.

So what is the biggest colorful fish you would recommend?

For your tank either the one angel you were thinking of, I would personally recommend a blushing koi angel or a blue variant angel, or you could do 2 German blue rams which are super colorful but only get to about 2 in in size. All of them are really pretty fish.

A 55 would be plenty of room for a Blood Parrot and Angel. My sister actually has 2 Angels and 1 BP in her 55 with no issues.

In my opinion a bp would be just too much fish to add with the current stock that you have.

If it were my tank I would stock as follows, 3 angels, 2 Otos, 10 ghost shrimp, 2 German blue rams, and either 15 cardinal/neon tetras (you would need grown tetras to not be harassed by the angels), or 8-10 rummynose tetras
