I would not use silicone for the bulkheads, I would use plumbers tape.
Nice stand. They did a great job!

Personally, I use silicone grease on the gasket that goes with the bulkhead. This will keep it from binding and twisting as you tighten the bulkhead.

Why wouldn't you use silicone on the bulk heads?

Thank, he sure did do a good job on the cabinet.

If you ever need to adjust or do anything with it, good luck. All my tanks are drilled and everyone of them has plumbers tape. No problems ever and you will be thankful in the future. I replumbed and added a Durso to my 135, had to replace the bulkheads to shorter ones to make it fit.

Yea that's a good point, by plumbers tape I'm guessing you mean ptfe tape?

Ok, so I picked up the cabinet today and have sat the tank on top, it fits perfectly. Also the black Perspex came this morning so I siliconed it to the weir box. I have been out and brought some jet black gloss paint that j am going to paint the back of the tank with.

Here is the tank and cabinet with sump underneath.

You can see I have had the centre piece of the cabinet between the doors made so I can take it out. There are 2 locating blocks and magnets top and bottom that hold it in place. This makes working on the sump a lot easier.

Coming together nicely

Thanks I am really pleased with it. I have painted the back of the tank now in black gloss. I will be sorting the plumbing out today, and then I have to wait another month before I can get the light unit as I'm out of money grrrrrrrrr! :-(

Guinness, just started following along. It's a beautiful setup and the cabinet is very well thought out (very jealous). Can't wait to see the finished product. Wanted to let you know that I use a 4 bulb T5 fixture on my 90g reef. I have the return pump and skimmer pumps both located in sump as well as 2 Koralia 1050 power heads in the main tank. I have Star Fire glass lids to prevent fish jumping to their death. All that only adds about 2 degrees F about my heater setting. Just wanted to comment about the added heat discussion earlier in the thread.

Yes, that is exactly what I am talking about. Have used it numerous times and it does the job every time. If you do need to remove, just be sure to replace it with new tape and it will be good to go again.

The cabinet is beautiful. He really did a great job. Smart move on removing the center piece for future cleaning or upgrade. Genius!

Hi and thanks for following along. I'm really happy with how it's coming along although not as quick as I would like lol. But every step is a step closer. Yea I was worried about heat from the light unit and having return pumps and reactors and a skimmer in the sump and probably 4 power heads in the tank.

That's good to know about you 90g and how much you temperature fluctuates. My tank has glass sliding lids to cover the top,but I think I will have them open and cover the gap with some type of gauze to allow the tank to breath.
Hopefully that will keep the temperature even.

Thanks, he did a really good job on the cabinet it looks amazing the pictures don't do it justice. Originally the cabinet was going to be op at the back but I changed that because if ever I break a baffle plate or need to remove the sump I would have to drain the hole tank and pull the hole thing away from the wall to repair it, and that's a ball ache lol so we came up with the idea of a removable centre section which works great.

I will be setting up a derso system from the word go, so don't think I will ever need to remove the bulkheads. Bit I do like the idea of using the ptfe tape just encase.

Nice cabinet. Just wondering after you have everything on your tank it will not sag without a support at the middle.

I don't believe it will. On my 90g I have the same thing. A removable beam for sump purposes. No bow whatsoever. Obviously there's a 60g difference between our tanks but I think it should be okay.
