I just got a gallon of this in the mail to use as liquid carbon in my 30g planted. I never heard anyone mention it, but it came with a little bottle of activator. I know its original purpose is as a cold sterilizer, but for using in the aquarium, do I use this in the solution or not???
Thanks, OS.

Throw the activator bottle, in the trash. All you need is the 1 US Gallon of 2.6% Gluteraldehyde.

Yeah don't use that activator! Are you going to dilute the Glut prior to dosing or just dose less (in comparison to Excel of course)?

I think i recall Rivercats mentioning to use distilled water. I have a bottle of glut I have yet to dilute. Still finishing what little excel i have left.

LOL I have plenty of distilled water. Wow I had no idea about diluting the glut. I just got one gallon in today, and realized that I double ordered it from Amazon cause I thought the first order did not send. So another gallon to be here in three days. What the heck am I gonna put all this in!?? LOL OS.

^^ Cool... I just wanted to be clear on using DI to make some pre-made solution. I read a ton of threads on TPT and barrreport about dosing Glut various methods. Some people just dose straight in the tank at a much smaller dosage as they would Excel because its about 2.6X stronger. Another would mix it with some aquarium water right before putting it in the tank. Anyway, I'm about to use it in my low tech tanks so I'm a newb to it.

Edit: Just remember to use it with extreme caution. Treat the chemical as if it were bleach or something. Don't inhale the fumes and take extra precaution to not splash any in your eyes.

OK Thanks, yeah I saw on the label where it could put a hurt on you if you got goofy with it. LOL. After reading all the doctor stuff in the label, I thought about getting a white coat, a stethyscope, and calling myself an amateur gynecologist!! LMOA. OS.

Dr Scales - I understand the product is light labile so if you do dilute it, store it in appropriate container. You might end up with 5 gallons of it! ...as I am shaking my near empty half liter bottle of Excel :(

Or a glutatologist haha roflmao

Well when my bottle of Excel runs out, I'm just going to dilute a little bit of Glut at a time.. .just enough to refill my 500mL bottle of Excel again. You don't have to mix it all at once in other words. Store the rest until the need arises to use it.

+1 on that. I will mix just part at a time also. I've got a totally dark closet I can keep the main bottle in. Using a 16 oz. dark bottle to dose from. OS.

Hey Fresh2o,
Grab your bottle, stick your thumb out and hitch hike to Araknsas and I'll share some of this glut I double ordered with you! LOL. Aw, it's just Virginia to Arkansas. Not far for a high stepper! Take care. DR. Scales.
