I found a great deal on a 55 gallon and want to get some south american cichlids in it, could anyone tell me which could fit and live happily inside?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Here are some South Americans:

Some Geophagus
Acara and andinoacara
Heros (Severum)
Temporalis (chocolate)
Small/medium pike

Or you could do dwarf community likes rams/apistos.

I see another Geophagus / severum set up.

I'd go geophagus and skip the severums. The only standout severum is the rotkeil in my opinion.

You could also work a Pulcher in there.

I like the color offset between my heckelii's and the red spots.
But I'm also not as experienced as most of you.

The genus Australoheros such as sp. Red Ceibal or facetus would great additions. Skip all the rest of the boring everyday fish, spend some time researching and order what will make you happy in the long term.

I can't believe I forgot to recommend Australheros! I have a whole tank dedicated to them and they are awesome.

Australheros red ceibal and oblongum are my favorites of the genus.

Could i put a firemouth pair, 1 golden severum,2 green terror,1 blood parrot,a convict pair, and a jack dempsey?

maybe the firemouth pair or one sev.. imo the jack and GT both would need a 75g to themselves

Ok i guess your right jacks grow big and i dont know anything about GTs but i trust you.so could i put the blood parrot and convicts in with the sev, the blood parrot, and the fire mouths?

GTs get bigger, I think. I think a pair of fm would be about it in that tank. I'm not exactly sure, stocking not my specialty.. maybe 1 fm, 1 or 2 cons (if cons mate up I've heard they will terrorize rest of fish when breeding and believe it mine are tearing eachother up!) and a bp... I don't know how big bps get.

If the cons breed i will move them into a 10 gallon quarantine i am gonna set up in a little while

I've never had corys but read a lot =) If I'm thinking of the right fish they tend to like groups, 4 or 5. Some also say pleco just add too much to bioload others love them, personal preference. I have spotted synodonis (sp?) catfish. He looks really cool, doesn't get that big, but I only see him every once in a while
