Sorry for your loss Brian

I think its a great idea to rework/recover the scape. A lot of people doing build threads and such but nothing really out there like this. Hoping to learn a lot

Thanks...

Yeah, recovery efforts underway soon. Maybe tomorrow. LOL

Okay.. the more I'm thinking about this, the " Dutch " scape might be a better idea. Although, I don't want to bite off Sk3lly's plan. By removing the DW and stones, this will provide me more room to "salvage" the plants... hmmm, what to do?

You crack on Brian. Mine wont be happening until september. Id love to see how you'd go about it

Considering how well the Dutch are doing in the World Cup, I think it's an omen for you to go Dutch!

Basically you try to make your tank look like a flower bed. Lots of contrasting colours, textures and leaf shapes add to this effect

Thanks Sk3lly... Also I have this very stubborn green fuzz algae on everything inside the tank. Anyone know how to kill it?

Brian,

Green Dust Algae. I had my bout with it after the new rescape. I suggest less light intensity or time on, more CO2(even add Glut with it) and PO4 at 3-5 ppm. After that mine slowly went away. I hope that is what did it! LOL OS.

Do you guys think this fuzzy stuff is GDA though? It's filamentous like a hair/thread algae that doesn't get longer than a cm or two. Really coats a lot of surfaces like my mini fiss (which looks furry because of it), old leaves, some on the heater and filter intake. I thought GDA is literally like dust.

Can you get a closer picture of it? It's probably not GDA because like you said, GDA is usually tiny spots like dust. To get rid of it I would manually remove as much as possible, then make conditions less habitable for algae (like Old Scales said above).

Sure.. be prepared to be horrified. This is what happens if you leave town for a few weeks and your CO2 cuts out!

Haha, that's what my tanks look like when I am IN town with co2! lol. I'm not sure what that is... I would do what I said above, but if you can't manually remove it, cut off the leaves that have it on them. Take out the heater and soak it in 50% bleach 50% water for a while. If it doesn't remove it, it should at least kill it. What are your nitrate levels? A big water change to reset the levels might help too.

I agree with Old Scales and Max. Co2, lighting and ferts back on track which im sure you've already done. Id be tempted to cut out most of the affected plants. Failing that i would get the hydrogen peroxide out and start spot treating small areas daily

Yup. Might want to do the One-Two Punch method for a complete nuke. But beware, it could harm fish/inverts, so either remove them or watch carefully.
