FresH2O's Shrimp Tank

The friendliest place on the web for anyone with an interest in aquariums or fish keeping!
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Hold the fish.
I'm entertaining the idea of fish in this tank and, if I do, it would be nano fish such as micro rasboras. If I want to mimic the tank I was inspired by, then it would be a school of ember tetras.
Or I may just keep it as a shrimp haven.

+1 to shrimp haven...

Looking great.

Chili Rasboras don't eat the shrimp, and shrimp haven. Just make sure you are getting true Boraras Brigittae and not Phoenix, etc.

Liked the linked articles a page or so back. Interesting to look into further on the spray hormone seems a wonder for the growth.

Here is a pic of my favorite...(one anyway) Subwassertang tied to a rock this pic was after a couple months of growth in low light.

I really like dwarf amber barbs, so small that many of my shrimp are actually larger than the fish!

The subwassertang looks good...was it difficult to tie it to the rock?

Thanks & Nope. Went to the yard and found a shape river rock I wanted - one that was a little rough like a sand texture - in theory to have a better grip. Took a couple little chunks and tied with multi colored fly tying thread. Imagine a couple drops of glue would work great. I understand Subwassertang will melt using Glut btw. It was in a Chi tank so lower flow. I would place one in a lower flow area. What I like about that is you can easily move them around where ever you want them.

Or use small or long ones to fill in a hole Fresh!

Yuss! Moar shrimp! Actually, if I'd deliberated longer, I might've gone with emerald rasboras instead. I love the stripes and shimmer.

Just shrimp would be cool. Just saw this video on YouTube and thought of this build.

The asymmetric "foot of the mountains" look is quite pleasing. Since the pieces in my tank are modular, so to speak, future rearrangement is possible.
I like spreading out the moss on the SS mesh. I believe it allows more light penetration and opportunity for growth. Plus you can move the moss around the tank as needed.
BTW I ordered another sheet of mesh and tried to cancel it but it was shipped anyway. So I may cut it into 9 more 4"x4" squares for future use or for distribution on AA (ships cheaper when cut up).
Temp is currently at 78F; I may drop it a few degrees.

Yes, they look like a "tiger" version of CPDs.

After removing all that moss from the shrimp holding tank it looked empty. I placed the previously disintegrating subwassertang in there and it is holding steady so far. I may incorporate it into the scape as suggested. I have some open faces of stones available for coverage.

You & Autumn are my nano references. Thanks for the input.

I think they help keep the moss clean, especially in the low flow areas.

It does have a nice effect. Tank is near a SE window and I have been opening it up to get some bonus rays in the AM.

Little red Shrimpies would look great on the lush green! I remember when I had rcs for 3.5 days.. they did look nice in the moss:)

High grade CRS.... Get the white color contrast too. Ive also seen some crazy nice yellow shrimp lately.

Have any of you seen the ones such a dark color they're black in low light? Can't remember where I saw them, else I'd have a few, but they were that red.

Were they expensive fish food?

I know folks keep RCS and CRS together and IMO you need to find middle ground in terms of pH, hardness, and temp.

Black Tiger Shrimp (Caridina cantonensise)?

Maybe Sulawesi cardinal shrimp?

That's an odd quote (post from 2014). This thread is haunted ?
Those are awesome looking shrimp. According to PlanetInverts they prefer warmer temps (78 F min, low 80s fine) and I am actually lowering mine a few degrees to about 75-76 for benefit of the RCS.

My cherry shrimp have managed to mysteriously get into 4 of my tanks, survived a fishbowl with floating plants I was moving for like a month, and lived through a full cycling process. So I hope a few degrees wouldn't be too bad ;)

Noooo they're neos, not really banded but they have sort of a jeweled undertone. Deep blue or red. I'll have to locate some pictures.

But won't the presence of RCS dilute these color traits through cross breeding?

Sssshhh. Y u doing all that thinking ahead?! Really, though, if the base colors match, it'll all come out in the end in my book.

Maybe Blue Diamonds.

I like the modular/mobile idea of the stones with moss. Like a Zen Moss Garden. Change it up every day if you want!!!

You will need to get them growing separated from each other so there won't be bare spots on the sides if that is what you want to do.

I did not want anything permanent in case I changed my mind on the layout. I need more moss to fill in the empty areas (sides, back). Once this gets going I will have a constant supply of moss to fill in as needed. Even a few weeks in the temp holding tank the Fissidens perked up with lots of new growth. That was under a 26w 6700K CFL. Hoping to get the same growth under a FugeRay.

http://youtu.be/ZR_8NQ2VoA0 Blue ones! http://www.aquaticarts.com/10-blue-diamond-shrimp-detail#vm-additional-images[product]/0/ These have both, I'd put reds in my fiancées tank and blues in mine. Red vs Blue! Bahahahaha cracks me up every time! Terrible idea if you are going for specific traits, though.

I watched the video. Those are so dark and shiny they look like glass. The whole cross breeding thing with neos is why I don't get the yellows, oranges, and Blues.
After watching the video, clicked on a link on CRS. Gorgeous!

Did I say "No Stems" for this tank? Yes, I did:
ceG4LPw.png
These are just hanging out here until this weekend's auction. I did a major trim on the planted tank and had lots of leftovers.
The prefilter should be here in a few days and after that I may start moving the shrimp into this tank.
On a side note, shrimp are little poop machines. The internal filter was barely moving water because it was clogged with waste.
A rather large MTS had died in the temp shrimp tank and I saw a gang of shrimp pulling its carcass out of the shell. They later feasted on it. Yum?
