Well I slept in so I just did my morning routine a little big ago. So far so good! The green dragon seem comfortable and the other fish are kinda hiding as to be expected.

I think I won't mess with the water just yet. I'll wait a little while and also contact the seller and see what he says about what water he bred them in, unless he wholesaled them.

So my new plan is to bug my dad to put a new circuit in the back room of the basement and the start setting up back there. This will need to be after the holiday. I'll also need more shop lights. I think we have a few extra 48 inch fixtures but not sure if they work and they don't have bulbs.

So KH is your carbonate hardness or pH buffer. And at 9 dKH I don't think the peat granules will have much effect on lowering your pH. You could set up a little test bucket and add some tap water and add some peat granules and monitor it over time and see what it does. Check KH and pH over time and see if it decreases it any. IME the only way to decrease KH is to add distilled or RO water. So if your tap water is 9 dKH and the tank is 20 gallons you would need 10 gals tap and 10 gals RO/distilled water to reduce KH to 4.5 dkH. Also I don't think there is a direct correlation between TDS and dKH. Lots of other things can be dissolved in the water to effect TDS other than just carbonate (KH). Also my well water TDS isn't really that high but it is super hard like 25 dGH and 15 dKH. You do want to maintain a dKH of at least 2 or 3 so you maintain adequate buffer in the water so your pH doesn't swing too much. Hope this helps and isn't more confusing.

Not confused. It did help thanks.

Ok so Pete said he keeps them at 7.2 Ph and 100 German hardness. So my water is just slightly harder but I use IAL.

IAL = Indian Almond Leaves

Oh just a thought, hydroponic supply stores sell humic acid which is pretty much concentrated tannins, which I've been using lately and works quite well for me.

Is there a testable result you look for?
Or do you add X to so much water?
Does it change any testable parameters?

This is no bueno. I assume they are from the bn. I saw him hovering. I'm doing a water change now and will put them in a container. Ugh

Yes. Not sure from which plecos. The male ancistrus was hanging out near them. They are now in a refugium. I can't get the Fluval 306 to start back up. Gave myself blisters on both hands from priming it and one broke open before I realized it was there. Ouch! So there is no canister running tonight on the 40b. I see another water change coming tomorrow and panic if I can't get the filter working.

All the new fish seem fine. There is a party for the killifish club next weekend with some great fish for auction. Haven't decided if I'll take any plecos to sell.

Supposed to get a package of fish tomorrow
USPS mess up of course. I need to get a tank ready. Going to be a long day.

Here are some disturbing pics. I found my female looking like this during the evening feeding.

I feel for ya. I have that with the Angels as well. Everybody looks fine one day and the next, there are sick ones, Pop-eye, Intestinal issues, etc, all out of the blue  It's frustrating as heck. :banghead::banghead:

At least the cluster is still mostly orange. That means there is still hope. ;)(y) Have you "candled" the eggs? When I do mine with a magnifying glass, I can see the red blood veins so I know they are still alive. Then it's just a matter of time. (y)

I'm of the opinion that either it's bacteria or some other fish ripped her very preggers belly open. She's still alive. If she lives til tomorrow I'll begin treatment, otherwise I'm really not thinking she will make it that long.

Haven't candled them. Haven't had time really. Got a box of fish this afternoon and have water changes that.must take priority.

Look how much the lone Ranger has colored up. He's a beauty
Other one in the other tank isn't doing so well.

I'm hoping I don't get any surprise calls Thursday telling me the scarlet badis are in when I ordered two weeks ago and they told me 5 weeks. That happened to me last week with the farlowella.

I just meant the female guppy. I really am debating euthanasia in this case. The rest of her tank is fine as far as i can see.

I'm going to bump up the heat for the scarlet badis. I think it may be slightly cool for it.
