My daughter was talking to my sister about her new Aquabot seahorse.

My sister didn't understand that the seahorse was not a living creature, so of course now my daughter wants a live seahorse. You know, I'm open to a marine tank at some point in the future, so I did a quick Google search.

Well, wonderful people, that is NOT happening in the foreseeable future.

Thanks, Aunt Gigi.

woke up this morn turned on lights in tanks to find milky white.
went through all my tests everything was on key except alk which was alarmingly low also noticed my salinity was awfully high .

so first things first did a large water-change to drop salinity I dropped it down around 2 points . tomorrow will drop it a little more. the water change also helped raise alk now I can see it on my chart .

tomorrow I will do another water change to drop salinity a bit more and to raise alk level.

I never seen my salinity level go up like that , than I looked around the parameter of the tank . I noticed it was clean someone decided to wipe down the build up that I usually do on sun ,

so now I know why my salinity level jumped all the excess salt build up dumped into the tank ,

but the alk level going down that much that it didn't even read on the chart , this still has me guessing ,

I did notice this week how some corals were receding , but I didn't think nothing of it but now I can see why after all the testing ,

the milky white I still haven't figured out other than when I opened up the tank top to do a water change it has a musky mold smell , so I cleaned out all the filter media in the sump added some white bio carb , it's been about a hour since I done all this the tank is sparkling clear again , the musky smell receded also , I rechecked salinity it sits at 1.029 I'll drop that more tomorrow ,

The thing is I never let my salinity peek over 1.024/1.025 so I see a few more water changes in the next few days. alk just reached a shy 7.2 still has a way to go,

fish seem to be a bit more active which tells me they are happy .
now it's time to change out RO/DI filters as there due for a change and I can tricle the new water into my 55g drum so I have plenty of water for tomorrow.

not what I like to wake up to but it could have been worse . now I just need to figure out why my alk dropped so rapidly. thinking this was the cause of the milky white I awoke to.

just have to wait till the beginning of the new year as I will be tearing down the 90g for a good cleaning.

Sorry for ur lose tmaire.

Thank you for the condolences everyone. I figure I will wait a few months and make sure I do not have anymore unexplained casualties. All 6 of the neons I got last week have died. They were grey when I got them home and never colored up. I got a stern talking to from my husband about using one of my other tanks for quarantine. Now I'm just hoping not to lose my Khuli's and older cardinals and neons.

I went to 2 LFS and neither one recommended treating the tank and just waiting it out.

I lost 2 Khuli's last Tuesday, but no more after that. I cleaned all 5 tanks today so they would presentable for company on thanksgiving.

And the main tank including the canister, new floss.

Main tank is still clearing. I rearranged things a bit. 3 types of Java fern, Anubias, and bucephalandra. A dash of dwarf sag and that red thing(can't remember). IMG_1479600153.596424.jpg

I will wait till New Years to add any new fish. I split my huge needle leaf Java into 2 pieces. It was taking over one end of tank.

Pwc on all 3 tank's.
Found baby rcs in my boraras tank, but sadly found 2 adults dead stuck in their shell's ?
Have been thinking of adding my betta to this tank but can't make my mind up. Gonzo is doing fine, plant's are finally growing and spreading really want this tank filled in looks bare.
It's been so busy here, hands full with my new puppy!

After moving the tanks yesterday, the big tank had a frosting of mulm on all surfaces. The filters were caked on the insides. Soooooooooo gross. Everything is clean now. The tanks are beautiful. Now my only problem is that I don't have a good seat to watch them!

Been gone out of town, got back late added water to several tanks from evap.

They had been fed before I got home. Found lots of algae growing in the plants of the 12G Edge. Might start adding some ferts and might do a dip with Hydrogen Peroxide. Last time I tried that I completely melted a nice red Lotus, oopsy got the % messed up and then forgot about it and wound up with a little bag of mush.

Also need to get some new ceramic rings and do the FX-5 filter clean in the next couple days and vac the 72G. Need more Prime! AGAIN! The store has been out of the larger bottle and just has the small ones lately which I can use up in a month.

Well didn't have the occasion to see anything awesome out in the travels - from any lfs :(

Except I got some cool plants that were in the sand/waters tide of the ocean it seems to be some sort of vining salt & sand loving Morning Glory. I got a pic and grabbed a handfull of the leave/seed things, just in case they will grow in the SW Macroalgae Vase...???

EDIT found it thank you google wikipedia
Ipomoea pes-caprae, also known as bayhops, beach morning glory or goat's foot.

Some cool sea shells and a little sea shell sand. Love the Beach.

Lots happening for the week but need to do maintenance on the tanks too. Glad to be back.

Filled the evap gap. Added all the necessary stuff. And added an antibiotic after taking the cartridges out for THIS guy.
He is all that is left in my tank except Gary, my snail, and Stanley & crew, my catfish. I have to clear up this long standing infection before I add new fish. I can't wait to show you when that happens!

Well went to the big box store today, for the new cat, checked out the SW and low and behold......find a HUGE clump of macro algae of what I think is red/green rhodophyta, or something similar to it. All for the low price of $2.13 :) Normally a clump that size would cost me $20-$30 at the LFS
Good steal, maybe I should check there more often

I got some Gracilaria its red and there are often bunches of it available at the big box store with the slightly shorter name which has SW "pets".

this week was a strange one evaporation was almost 3x of whats normal.
guess the fire place sucked it up . I found another awesome sponge bush it's almost 6 inch tall and 6 inch wide , now I have 1 blackish and white 1 all white and 1 orange
This sponge is fascinating just how it grows , I do need to keep it groomed or it will spread like wild fire .

I administered another dose of antibiotics.

I found a brand new baby rabbit snail! They are so cute!

We're adding an air stone back to the big tank. I attached the air line to the stone, put the stone in the tank, and the siphon started before I had a chance to get the check valve on. Wrong order!

Seaweed - Pics of the sponge please!

Moved the SW nano light over to the corner of the tank early afternoon, as the Fancy Rock Flower Anemone was in the corner all closed up.

It moved while I was away and I couldn't find it when I got back. The Chaeto is everywhere and rocks so I didn't worry, figuring it could be under the big RFA like at the beginning, but I didn't see it there after it really opened up big so I admit it concerned me.

Then last night, right at tank lights out, I saw it opened in the corner but today closed like it was not doing well. About 6 hours later now, it is full open and looks okay. But it is still in a bad spot which really doesnt get much light.

I also fed the tank some tiny powdered foods yesterday and it looks good, it is pwc time for the tank too which is the order of things to make sure the powdered food doesn't foul the water and need to add more fresh water due to evaporation.

Tomorrow I will likely pick up the new bottle of Prime, so I can really get to the PWC's and filter clean out for the 72G.

Oh MY GOODNESS!!!

I just went over to check out my fancy RFA to see how it was doing, and in the Chaeto next to it is a BABY RFA not a new born kind but a 1/4 inch, that may well be why it was not spreading out all the way, and now I am hoping there could be more!?!?!

Pic soon, and couldn't get it to load right now!
