I'm building a canopy for my 37gal. how far should i have the lights off of the top of the tank? 6-8inches? Also, do you think I should include a fan if i leave the back off?

I'm making a new canopy since i purchased new light s for my 37gal. i bougt 4 65w compacts. how far off should i keep these from the top of the tank? also, do i really need a small fan if i leave the back completly open? thanks

i just ordered the square pin lights myself. it doesn't really matter. the straight pins are not as wide as the square pins. most stores carry both, but i seem it easier to get square lights by me. its up to you, same price.
