But the tank seems sooooooo boring with just 1 crayfish.
What can i put with it???

cories?
snails?
white clouds?
danios?
any ideas?
i don't know much about them...i want to put something with my crayfish.
i have a 5 gallon tank
i want to get a betta
what can i put with the betta??
anything?
any suggestions?
i was thinking either:
snails
white clouds
danios
cories.
but i don't know how many i can put in there...
can someone please tell me the stocking limit.
also.
do i need a heater in a 5...
that's the problem i'm confused about...
by doing water changes you are ONLY removing the ammonia...
but the ammonia source (fish poo) is still there..
so regardless of the water change...
the ammonia will rise back up again...cuz the fish poo (ammonia source) will continue to produce ammonia...
it is widely accepted and established that you should NOT clean the filter, vacuum the gravel during cycling.
and ONLY change the water.
fair enough...
BUT...
won't the fish poo constantly build up in the filter and gravel (if you don't clean it)??????
and hence, the ammonia will continue...
lots of oxygen = bacteria reproduce faster
kinda true... .they DON'T reproduce faster per-se....
its just that it keeps them alive!!
the FACT IS:
by having an airstone, it ENSURES that the fish and bacteria BOTH get SUFFICIENT oxygen !!! hence, they can live, multiply and perform their cell...
1) do u only take filter media from a FULLY CYCLED tank????
because i just took some media from my LFS/LPS...and i tested the water for ammonia...and it had ammonia.
also.
2) if you take DIRTY filter media (sponge, filter floss)...
won't u be ADDING ammonia to your tank...cuz there is fish...
i was wondering.
if you take filter media (filter floss, gravel, sponge etc..) from a healthy established tank for CYCLING purposes....
does the WATER PARAMETERS need to be the same between 'MY tank' and the tank the filter media ORIGINALLY came from???
e.g.
lets say my tank has
pH 7.6
temp...
i have 2 questions regarding pH & cycling.
1) can a tank cycle at a LOW pH
lets say 6.0
2) does the pH have to be STABLE?
if so, how do i 'permanently' buffer the pH??
the reason i ask is because.
the pH from my tap water is 7.6
but in 1day it falls to 6.0
now i don't know what my GH or KH...
yes.
my fish are NOT gasping at the surface. :)
and my water is constantly moving :)
i look at the water level..i can see it moving up and down (waves/vibrating)
the reason i ask is because..the splash was driving my NUTS !!!!!
can someone please clarify the waterfall/oxygen/splash concept.
i have 2 aquaclear mini's on my 10 gallon.
the water level is just below the spill-way, but there is NO splash.
ONLY ripples
&
ONLY crack where the waterfall enters the water.
can someone please confirm if there is sufficient...
i was wondering..
my tank has been up for a week...and it hasn't gone cloudy yet.
is this bad?? do ALL aquariums HAVE TO have a bacteria bloom???
my ammonia is 2.0ppm.
nitrite 0
nitrate 0
also.
i have 2 aquaclear 'mini's on my 10 gallon
so there is lots of filtration and lots of bubbles and...
