    substrate heating - total failure

I think 40W may be too much for 10g. A 50W was recommended for my 70g tank. (I bought the heater. Didn't feel confident about making it myself) If the gravel is warm to touch, I would guess that it is 80+ degrees. Would that be too much for the plants. Maybe the sword is doing well...

    Flourite & clean water

The gentleman at Fish Vet was nice enough to share a cool trick with me to avoid cloudy water when setting up a new tank. :D I set up my new 70 gal with bottom layer of Flourite and laterite mix (this mix reminds me of Flourite Red) that makes up 1/3 of the total substrate and a top layer of...

What to look for in CO2

What I meant to ask is... is every regulator or solenoid, etc., the same? Are there some features that I will definitely want to look for and some that are unnecessary?

no red light = no red coloration?

I don't believe that the red lights will help the red plants. We see these plants as red because they are absorbing all other colors of the spectrum and reflecting red. I agree with Allivymar. I'd check the iron levels.

What to look for in CO2

I'm looking into getting a CO2 system for my 70gal that I'm setting up. I have an idea of what I'll need, but no idea about what's good and what's not. I'd really appreciate any info on it.

I bought my SAE from the same store. It didn't start eating much until 1-2 wks after i put it in. I also have a couple amano shrimps and an oto. I had to clean as much of the globs of algae off as possible. they won't eat it when it's full grown like that. To get rid of the algae, you wanna...

    good algae eater for plants?

I've got otos, SAEs and Amano shrimp in my tank. The otos get most of the green stuff. the shrimps are the most active eaters. The SAE are the only ones that eat the stringy algae. Matt is right though...the SAEs will get pretty big for you tank...but it'll take a while.

    really cheap riccia mats

I agree with Chris. I've got some on a rock that's held down by a hairnet. I love it! I'll put a pic of it up in my gallery.[/img]

    Seachem Substrates

If 14.95 is the price that she quoted you after giving her the first 3 digits of your zip code, you are safe. You are much closer to their location than croc is. I will be ordering 4 bags from them and it will take 24.50 for shipping to northern california. I don't know when they added...
