Thanks for the reply... I'd seen plenty of setups that used various objects (rocks/wood/cork) as above "ground-level" barriers, but I hadn't seen anything about using "underground" dividers.
If all goes well, I'll post some before and afters.
Otos should help conrol it (the combination of Oto/SAE is even better, IMHO), but you should also try to figure out what's causing it in the first place.
Are you running a heavily/moderatly/lightly planted/lighted tank? If planted, what's your routine for ferts/lighting/etc?
I was thinking about using some slate scraps to help ease the maintenance of some new tank layouts I want to try. Nothing obtrusive, but keeping the dividers just below/even with the substrate... Sort of an easy cut off mark.
Has anyone used this as an easy way to maintain a tanks' looks while...
If you can keep a small corps of Otos & SAE running around the tank, most algae shouldn't be a problem.
I don't know your tank specifics, but I tend to keep one of each per 15 - 20 gals while running ~4WPG and all is well...
I would say it was the "entire weekly recommended dose" of Flourish...I made that mistake once (won't do it again!)...
I'm getting in the habit of following more towards Rex's process...the 1st thing I do after the water change is dose my nitrates and potassium, then I do my 'full-spectrum'...

Did the distorted leaf growth come after the probs with the hood? The leaves might have grown a little odd due to the side lighting, or a temporary nutrient imbalance...Ditto for the algae (which, IMHO, just happens to still be growing because we can never clean it completely off...
The plant definitely looks like some form of hygro...
BTW...Is that direct sunlight on the left side of the tank???
From what I've seen, the distorted leaf growth and algae probs are gonna stem from a nutrient imbalance (calcium or boron)...
I'm currently getting much experience in growing...
My only online plant order came from AB, and the only thing that surprised me was their choice of a substitution...other than that, I got more plants per bunch than I expected.
I can't say anything one way or the other for the Rio pump, but I can say that the reactor does seem to work quite well...I'm running one on my pressurized co2 system, and it's doing wonders for my 120gal...
A quick question to those who have done this before...
I've never split a nana before...what's a good length for each section of the rhizome??? My nana's rhizome has grown to about 5 or 6 inches, and I was thinking about cutting it into smaller pieces to create a nana zone...
just in case...
