Seasoning Filter to Help New Tank

Yes, obviously. OK, let's say what is the minimum time before transfer.

    Way to many snails!

Feed so that less food hits the bottom and doesn't get eaten and the snails will reduce themselves.

Seasoning Filter to Help New Tank

How long should I leave a filter in my tank to season it with BB before I use it to help kickstart a cycle in the tank I'm setting up across town for a friend? I have some blue filter floss set up downstream from a well seasoned filter plate inside my current filter to get it ready to...

    Planted 55, 100% fake!

Here is another 55 I've done. 'Planted' with artificials. Not one real plant in the tank. I used to do big planted tanks but don't have much time for maintenance, yet still want nice green aquariums, so I went the fake plant route and enjoy it. Two 20" 5000K White LED strips from Ebay...

    I Don't Heat My Tanks.....

But you're comparing extremes. You're commenting on 33 degree water and constant ice cover, reduced food sources, little to no plant life, low oxygen levels and significantly reduced daylight hours. Those are the conditions in the wild. I ice fish in WI. My fish aren't in nearly those types...

    I Don't Heat My Tanks.....

I agree, I do not expect it to be the norm. :) Most should leave their heaters on because a lot of fishkeepers already have stressed or seriously overstocked fish as it is. One good thing, colder water holds more oxygen. I have noticed no stressed behavior in any of the fish. They still cruise...

    I Don't Heat My Tanks.....

Currently the temp in my 55 and my 29 is 61-63 degrees, the same temp as the house. I keep it cool in here in Winter. It goes to about an average of 74 in summer and fluctuates anywhere from 73 to 80 in one day. I stopped heating in the summer as always, and then never turned them back on, so...

    Anyone from Central Wisconsin?

I never even knew Tomahawk had a pet store. Hello Hailey. We have the regulars, Petco and Petsmart. Our local ACE Hardware also has a pretty large fish department, as the guy that runs it used to run the larger local stores for many years. Prices are a bit high there. Were you looking for...

What lights are you using on your 40B?

A single T5HO, Hmmm, never thought of that. I have a coupon from Petco that gives me 20% off any ZooMed product. They have them in issues of TFH. They have this T5HO light that allows you to use each bulb individually. Maybe I'll just do that and then if I ever go CO2, I can add the second...

    Gravel to tank gallon ratio

A full 75 with gravel and stand will run at least 750lbs. Most floors in good shape can support that weight spread across a quality stand without issues. It's little more than three good sized adult men sitting on a couch and watching a game on TV.

    somebody familiar with shrimp

As others have said, maybe don't mix ghost and RCS. Ghost will eat anything they can catch, and small RCS will be on the menu. Amano Shrimp will be just fine with them. As will Bamboo shrimp, but they need an aged tank and a flow of water that they can sit in and filter feed. Assassin snails...
