I just bought something called Aiptasia X today from a store that specializes in Corals. I have just a tiny piece that I treated tonight. He retracted when I got the syringe near him. Hopefully, just squirting this junk on him works.
Has anyone heard of the Aiptasia X?
My 65 gallon is cycled and ready. Right now I just have live rock in there. I am pretty sure that I have a tiny bit of Aiptasia I need to take care of.
What is a good amount of stock to start with? I was going to buy some snails and hermits today. How many should I buy of each for a 65...
I'm in the same position as you. Totally new to saltwater. My tank has been up an running for over a week. The live rock is coming to life. I think I found an aiptasia today... which is what you are referring too. From what I have heard we should try some hermit crabs or peppermint shrimp...
You may want to consider looking a little longer. I just bought my set up on Craiglist...
65 gallon tank
Nice Protein Skimmer
Pro Clear 150 Wet/Dry Filter
Coralife Lighting System
Pumps for the Skimmer and Filter
+ 1 crappy stand I turned to firewood.
Everything was less than a year old and...
Thanks!
Ok, so I have had the live rock in there about a week now. And here are the things I have identified.... (65 gallon tank, 60 lbs live rock)
2 patches of button polyps are growing.
A few feather dusters
Many Amphipods
Maybe some sponge
Maybe 1 barnacle
I just noticed a bunch of...
How do you calibrate it? I don't see any instructions on the package. It says to let salt water sit in it for 24 hours. That is what I am doing now. It is at 1.027 now after adding some fresh water a couple hours ago.
Sorry for the basic question... but I can't find the answer.
I bought a Deep Six Hydrometer today for my new tank. My reading is 1.028. Does that mean I need to increase salt or add freshwater? I know they recommend 1.020-1.023.
Thanks Guys! This is good stuff. I guess you learn as you go, but half of this stuff all looks the same to me. Hopefully, it is easy to spot the bad stuff before it gets out of hand.
Does anyone have a link to a place that I can check out all of the common things that grow on live rock? I'm just getting started and I am seeing all sorts of things pop up and I don't know much about it. I'd rather do some research before asking about every little thing I see.
Hello!
I am in the process of setting up a 65 gallon reef tank and I know close to nothing. But, I am a quick learner.
I have 60 lbs of live rock in there now and the water has been cycling since Saturday. I bought everything used, but it was all a year old. $275 for tank, coralife...
Hello! I am in the process of setting up a 65 gallon saltwater tank. Right now I just have live rock in there with the water. It is cycling for the first time. I have had freshwater tanks for a long time, but never salt water.
I got a smoking deal on a set up. 65 gallon tank, Pro Clear Pro...
