Green Hygro to trade for some groundcover

I have a ton of green hygro, I believe that is what it is. I can post pics if anyone wants. This stuff grows like mad. It has almost totally covered the top of my tank and is shooting off like crazy. I would like to trade for some nice ground cover. I have never shipped plants before and...

Check Valve or Not on CO2 Pressurized System???

I will be adding a check valve in a few days. I was cleaning my tank this weekend and I wanted to add more water to the bubble counter, it evaporates after a while. So I start to open the bubble counter and water is coming out everywhere. The water was siphoning through the tubing into the...

So what causes hair algae really? UPDATE: Which ferts?

I must agree with the consensus that algae is caused by a nutrient deficiency. Last week I slacked off on my dosing and let Nitrates bottom out. Hair algae started to take hold. I got back on track with dosing, a weekly 50% pwc and pulled the little hair algae there was and have not had any...

    aeration

it is simply a decision on asthetics. If you like it keep them in there. If you don't take 'em out. I had a bubble disk in a tank with some Mollies. They loved swimming in the current right through the bubbles. Kind of like the initiation Nemo went through when he had to swim through the...

    Tap/Aquarium PH problems

I do not, I only can go by what I have read here on AA. It is my understanding that ph swings due to the addition of Co2 will not effect fish in a harmful way, it is not the real ph of the water. to get the true ph of the water you would need to leave the water out for about 24 hrs and then...

    Tap/Aquarium PH problems

1st to truly check your tap ph you need to let it sit out for 24 hours to let the gas levels to equalize. What are you testing the ph with? Liquid regent or test strips? Ph swings are dangerous, no doubt about it. You say you "keep" your ph at 7.0, exactly. This can be bad for your fish...

    Filter pump maitanance (hob)?Updated

Follow the advice above on cleaning the filter. I clean out my hob filter about once a month. I remove the filter media and place it in a bucket of tank water, this prevents the media from drying out and keeps the beneficial bacteria alive during the cleaning. I then tank the whole filter...

    cycling question

I am assuming you are referring to establishing a filter capable of filtering a 55 gal tank and establishing it on a 10 gal tank. If that is the case then the bacteria colony established in the new filter is dependent on the bioload not the water capacity. If there are 10 fish in the old tank...

    cycling question

Yes it will. You will need to put the new filter on the old tank and let it run along with the old filter fow about 3 weeks. Then just move the new filter to the new tank and it will be ready to go.
