I would say it is a lack of lighting. What are the dimensions? I'd assume it's too tall of a tank for a 18" or even a 24" t8 bulb. It's hard to tell how much lighting your tank gets from the sun, usually only enough to grow algae lol. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

What type of bulbs t8, t5, t5ho, etc? I grew low light plants just fine with dual t5's 10k bulbs on my 40b. The kelvin ratings isn't as important as long as it's not too far about 10k. But regardless 10g are pretty short so even if your bulbs are T8's I think you'd still be safe :) Sent from...

Sorry for the delay, but here's the pic. I like the mixture because certain plants are easier to root in sand and some do better in the Eco. So some spots are sand or Eco heavy but it still looks nice to me. I'm sure if I had more Eco it would dominate the top like brookster said but I'm happy...

I have Eco and Ada mixed and I actually really like it. It's about 1/3 Eco and 2/3 ada, the Eco helps loosen up the sand and makes it not so compact. I can post a pic later if you'd like. But if you want to go with a cap definitely cap with the Eco. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice
