    Green Terror

I'm really enjoying our tank now that we finally have it set up. I couldn't get the little guys to stay still long enough for a photograph, so here's a quick movie instead. For you broadband folks out there - enjoy! For those on dialup - I sympathise. Green Terror Movie ~5mb

Cycling with Bio-Spira: how long until readings?

I offer my results for comparison. I started a fishless cycle in my 75gal on sunday uing Bio Spira and ammonia. I had nitrite readings within 24 hours. I'm sure my initial ammonia counts were much higher, which definitely helps my readings. Four days into the cycle, my nitrites are almost at...

180 Gallon Tank Stand - Build Log

I just came across this thread. I'm very impressed by your work! By the way, pipe clamps are very easy to lengthen. Buy a pipe union. You can join sections of pipe to get as long as you need (practically). For cabinet work, I find 3' and 4' sections are all I need.

Thanks! One drop per gallon got me up to 1.5 so far.

    Question: Converting mg/L to PPM

I'm going to start the fishless cycle on my 75g. I have Sea Mist ammonia (from Wal-Mart). I have a Tetra test kit that measures ammonia in mg/L. I have read several articles on the fishless cycle, but each one refers to ppm. :? :?: So, how many mg/L should I be reading when I reach 5ppm...

DIY 75 Gal Oak Stand - Building Log

Right now I'm just draining the tank with a garden hose stretched out the back door. Drag the hose up into the tank, then unhook the hose from the spigot. The weight of water left over in the hose is like a self-starting siphon. Then I just reconnect the hose and "fill'er up"!

DIY 75 Gal Oak Stand - Building Log

Thanks for the comments. I do want to follow-up with a hood for this stand. I don't have the time to tackle another big project right now. Possibly after the holidays, but certainly not before. I probably won't do custom lighting, since I don't have aspirations of a planted tank. We're just...

29 gal tank good for diy sump?

I thought I read somewhere on this site that silicaon didn't adhere well to acrylic. When joining acrylic to acrylic, you use a solvent. Would joining acrylic to glass work with silicon?

Oxygen bubbles from the filter required?

Oxygen will still get into the water through contact with the air in the room. If your filter/pump just creates a little ripple at the surface, you should have enough circulation to oxygenate your water.

DIY 75 Gal Oak Stand - Building Log

Well, I tried my hand at a concrete top and it just wasn't what I had hoped for. Three bottles of concrete coloring and it still wasn't black enough. I also should have added some extra portland cement to the mix to make it a bit stronger. So now I have a 150# slab of grey concrete to dispose...

I'm sorry for the temporarily broken links. I'm just settling into my new home after being relocated. The pics are hosted on a server that normally resides in my basement, so once I get the network running in the new house, the pics will be back up.

DIY 75 Gal Oak Stand - Building Log

Thanks for the compliment, Imperatorfan. The concrete will replace what I had originally planned to be marble. From what I have read, the concrete needs to cure for 2-3 weeks before you put any load on it. I might be moving out of state soon, so this project is on hold for a while. In case...
