    Trained or breathing?

Watch the tank from across the room. If the fish get tired of floating there and wander off, they're just begging for food. If they stay there for a while, they're gasping for air. Even better, throw an air stone in the tank for about 15 minutes and see if they stop.

    Stocking advice...

Red tails are fine by themselves, and probably better off that way because they're territorial. Mine doesn't seem to hurt other fish much, although he will incessantly pick on anything moving near his hidey log. I wouldn't suggest them if you have bottom dwellers that are smaller than the red...

    new to Angels

I'd say stick with one in a tank that size. A mated pair might work, but angel fish tend to bring domestic abuse to an art form. In a tank that size, a mating dispute could get kinda brutal so a single angel would be better. Angels are always happy with lots of plants so the more the merrier...

    Black Tahitian Moon Sand

Usually it actually means a sponge with an air riser tube stuck in the top of it. Often it does mean a sponge stuck on the intake tube though. Either way, make sure to clean it often in tank water. They tend to gunk up pretty good, which will make them into nitrate sources if they're not...

    Starting from the Beginning.

Generally having someone custom build for you is going to be a premium, you might try someplace like this : Carpenters | Carpentry Contractors That would at least give you a selection of quotes to look at. Try the cabinet and closet guys, they be more likely to take something like this. Even...

    overflow box siphon

http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idproduct~OE1137.html That's the pump I use myself, works pretty good and they're cheap. No idea about the retailer in the link though, I bought mine locally. It's a little noisy during restart when it's sucking air, but it's always restarted with no...

Do cories sleep on thier sides?

He may also have been digesting. Cories have a gland that adds oxygen to their stomachs to aid digestion. The side effect is that they also get gas and sometimes flip over or lay on their sides/backs briefly. Sometimes they'll fart before taking off too.

    Pump question!

Generally a sump is just a smaller tank used to house a skimmer, refugium, heaters and any other equipment you want to keep out of the line of sight in the tank. For instance, here's a blatantly stolen diagram of a sump with just about everything you could think of in it. This one has a bit...

    Pump question!

I didn't think salt water tanks used bio-wheels? Either way, a properly set up sump can be made fairly quiet. Much more quiet than a HOB bio-wheel in any case. Plus you get the space to grow some macro algae for nutrient export.

    Ocean sand

Look for a construction site. Florida isn't really a land mass, it's a coral reef. So there's almost no soil, just sand. Any time they dig for a building, they dig up fresh clean sand. In general you want to avoid the sand within a mile or so of the beach unless you know the area well. The...
