I think one has to try to kill Java fern. My otos and shrimp love it! I pulled about a basketball volume out of my thirty long, leaving behind several clusters that cover almost half the lower volume of the tank. There are other clusters in my quarantine tank and my kid's 2 gallon hex that...
I really like the search feature the question I had and the answers were all pretty much taken care of by this thread.
I prerinsed "half inch deep in a 10g" amount of play sand in a bucket for twenty minutes and had the water running clear from the bucket, but the tank has that thin white look...
be sure to check sources of your fish if you follow through on it. They are somewhat endangered in their native waters as wild fish are collected for the aquarium trade. Breeds of this fish type demand prices like the fancy koi in many communities.
big fan of the Aquaclears too. I had 50's when I had 10g and have now put two on a 30 long. I've even attached a hose to one to pull water further to the left from the return, creating a right to left current in the tank. I don't know that Penguin products don't have ease of media...
I made a surface barrier out of a piece of foam like a pool noodle that is used for insulating hotwater pipe. I placed it so that it prevents floating plants from drifting over some java fern and crypts. It's the depth of the tank (12''?) (front to back) about an inch wide and an inch tall so...
I had a green out in a month-aged 29 gallon I started with a HOB cannister. It has a twin fluorescent hood and some sun exposure. You couldn't see the back of the tank from the front!
I added two bundles of anacharis, a bundle of hornwort and a couple of crypts on a monday! By that friday, it...
my cousins stocked an old farm pond with blue cats and that's all that's in it now. Each about 10-20 lbs. The have to lurch up into the shallows to forage - with their fins out of the water. while they enjoy a rich catch and release system, without the supplemental fish feed, they'd have...
I found the second neon I've had with what seemed like some sort of lockjaw. It was unable to close its mouth fully and seen from the side, it appeared to protrude from the rest of its body like it had a cigarette. No other species of fish showed signs of this.
the tank is a 30 gallon...
This makes for a good example of international standards in measurement for my students. Fun with symbols! 30 gallon 'long' tank. it's a long tank rather than a tall so I get a hefty amount of air exchange.
the GBR is a german blue ram pair
I'm hoping it's just stress - and a kind that will...
I just got my first pair of GBR's. The male is fine. He's about 3 inches and started eating as soon as I introduced him to the 30Long community tank I have with tetras, rasboras and cories. The female is about 2 inches long and still fairly narrow/long - I'm assuming she's a few weeks/months...
for the DIY person out there, would it be possible to construct a canopy that acted in a similar fashion to keep the front and back panel a fixed distance apart? Kind of a collar?
Although if you can get a new top fram for $15, that'd probably be simpler and cheaper.
I found some panda cories at my LFS the other day and went back a day later to purchase them. had I gone to a box store, I'm certain that the average employee would have simply bagged 'em and handed them over.
the guy at my LFS said he'd love to sell them to me, but tetras in a neighboring...
