    coldwater/tropical combos

The paradise fish (Macropodus opercularis) fits your criteria. From what I understand, they should be kept in water temperatures ranging from 60-80F, but can survive in water temperatures from 55 to 90F.

    No-Tech Aquarium Resources

I've currently have some anacharis floating and i'm having success with it. I put it in for the reason you have suggested; to see what happens. So far it has been growing slowly. I also threw some of the wal-mart bulbs in and had zero success with that. what exactly are root tabs? I'll be...

    Rosy Barbs - - - - - MOVIE!

I've only been keeping fish for about a month, so my advice may be incomplete or incorrect, however I have 3 rosy barbs in my 29 gallon. In your first video it appers that both are males, as everything I've read indicates that male rosy barbs have the "rosy" red coloring, whereas females have a...

    No-Tech Aquarium Resources

Thank you. It might be helpful to provide additional information about what I'd like to do and what my expectations are. My expectations: Natural sunlight only, no filtration aside from plants. Tank does not need to be aesthetically pleasing. I'd prefer a healthy tank over a sterile...

    No-Tech Aquarium Resources

Can anybody point me towards good information about no-tech aquariums? Google searches have come up mostly dry. The best resource I've found is www.naturalaquariums.com. Feel free to chime in if you have experience with natural sunlight as your only source of light for a planted aquarium...

What Made You Want A Freshwater Aquarium?

in college, my friend's roomate had a tank of piranha. i was fascinated by these fish, but never thought about keeping them because i didn't grow up with fish or other pets of any kind. i didn't think i could handle the responsibility. this christmas, my girlfriend gave me 2 hermit crabs...

    Stressing about filtration

aquaria is a hobby you're supposed to get enjoyment out of. i was starting to get stressed out a lot too starting my tank, but about a week ago i stopped reading and researching. who cares if you don't have 2 watts per gallon? who cares if you use gravel and not sand? who cares if your...

55 gallon tank, safe on dresser????

I can't answer your question as to whether the dresser is strong enough or not, but I'll give you this piece of advice. Once you get your tank set full of water, don't plan on moving it again - it's a pain in the butt. As seen here http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=70650 I...

Tank hangs over edge of table

The table is not wobbly, weak, or flimsy. My only concern at the moment is the strength of the tank itself because it is not supported on all four sides at the base. Thanks again.

Tank hangs over edge of table

I do have 2 rosy barbs hiding behind the fake plants. In theory I'm going to have to drain a lot more water out of the tank before I can move it to the stand. This brings up a new issue: How much more water can I take out without further stressing the barbs? Furthermore, I don't have an...

Tank hangs over edge of table

thanks Thank you everyone for your input. Work commitments prevent me from procuring a stand this evening, but I'll make sure I get this taken care of tomorrow. This hobby takes no pity on a recovering cheapskate.

Tank hangs over edge of table

I'm new to the hobby and purchased this 29 gallon tank 5 days ago. As the picture below shows, the tank hangs over the edge of the table about 2-3 inches on each side. I found out today that this could lead to a crack in the tank, so at lunch I came home from work and emptied about 8...
