    Where are all my pleco's!?

for some reason, my bristlenose pleco is the same way! I finally figured out his hiding spot, but that's the only way I can see him is by looking there. He NEVER comes out. Never! I have no idea how he is still alive, seeing as I've never seen him eat or anything. My sailfin is the exact...

    don't know much about lighting

I don't know much about lighting. actually, nothing. that being said, I'm replacing lights, and I don't know what to get, upgrade, what have you. I have a 30" t5, with a coralife 6700k and a colourmax bulb. I have a 36" t5, with a I believe the same thing. the tank with the 30" is well...

    My Kribs spawned again :(

that whole moving them around can really scare the crap out of you the first time you see it, eh? my wife's sitting there watching the tank, then "hey, they're eating the babies! Make them stop! he's eating them!" and then watching him drop them closer to the cave.

    first time noticing kribs breed

UPDATE!!! Geez they're getting big fast!! Still 30ish in there, and they're getting close to half an inch. My poor buesos airies tetra...keeps venturing over to that side, and the parents keep chasing him out and nipping at him. Tail's looking pretty ragged, so hopefully he learns soon.

    first time noticing kribs breed

They're getting bigger now! I've got 30 or 40 1/4" fry swimming around one corner, well protected by the parents. I've got a little bit of research to do now (how long do the parents protect the fry mostly), but I'm on the road of raising some really nice looking kribs. I'm kind of paranoid...

    first time noticing kribs breed

At least that's what I assume it is. I'm looking for pics now, but I've got a swarm of pinhead biege coloured balls with what looks like tails attached. Prett sure they're krib fy. Now, how do I keep them alive? The tank they're in has tons of plants a nooks and crannies. I've got 6 kribs...

    Snail Invasion

Out of curiousity, what kind of problems will you experience with left over snail shells? In one of my tanks, the bottom is littered with Malaysian Trumpet Snail remains that my yoyo loaches have taken care of...it hasn't presented a problem yet, that I know of.

    snail eaters...

About eight months ago, I picked up a dozen Malaysian Trumpet snails. I figured my kribs will eat any boost in breeding, and I'll just pick out any extras. FastForward to a month ago, and the population EXPLODED! There are little tiny snails everywhere. The kribs don't touch them anymore...

Yo yo Loach hurt...what to do?

One of my Yo Yo Loaches enjoys sitting in his clay pot. Sadly, he made an attempt at exiting his pot from the little hole on top, instead of the giant hole on the bottom. of course, he didn't fit. Luckily, it happened right before I got there, and he wasn't struggling for long before I was...

    renovating small tank...help with options

I've got 2 small tanks that I'm pulling out of my kids room; a 2g and a 5g. They're both empty and dry, out of service for about 6 months now. It occured to me that perhaps I could use the larger as a hospital/breeding tank. Thing is, I've never really set up either, and would like to know...

Not ich, only on clown loaches

I've got two thermometers in the tank, both reading 90 at separate spots. Both thermometers are mercury tubes. I've battled ich before, but never seen anything like this. It looks so advanced, and it doesn't help that two of the three clown loaches are very reclusive; I have to hunt for them...

Not ich, only on clown loaches

Little white spots...covering my clown loaches. I'm suspecting that it's not ich; the temp is up to 90 and no other species in the tank have anything similar (kribs, weather and kuhli loaches). Any thoughts on what this could be, or how to treat it? I don't think I've lost any loaches to this...

    Emergency! Fish Rapidly Failing!

it's looking better than it was this morning... The question about the water from the 29g was about rinsing out the media from the 40g. I don't like to cross water from tank to tank (that's just how my brain works, please don't judge me...), so I thought i'd ask, even though I knew it was a...

    Emergency! Fish Rapidly Failing!

I woke up this morning to the sight of all but one of my tiger barbs (12) and 2 of my yo yo loaches at the surface. 1 tiger barb is dead. This is a 40g. I put an orange in the tank last night, and I'm thinking I must have had some soap traces on my hand when I did. There are a few small...

    Setting Up Digital Timer

yellow outlets are day, those are the ones you set blue outlets are on when yellow is off uncoloured outlets are always on this is a great timer, allowing for different on/off times for different days. i've got two, an they've been fantastic. my only beef with them is that when they get...

    Stressed Bristlenose!?!?

A couple of days ago, I decided to move some rainbows so I could make room for some baby clown loachs. Well, the rainbows didn't want to go, and it was a bit of work to net them. This , apparently, has really freaked out my bristlenose pleco. For two days now, he hasn't come out from his...

    Types of bracing

what different kinds of bracing are there? I hear mention of euro bracing, but when I google bracing I don't find very much. what are the pros and cons of each type? why are some more common than others?

    Refreshing my memory for freshwater

be careful what you add to go with your elephant noses. in fact, I don't know if a EN will really be appropriate for your tank. They can grow up to a foot long, I understand, and I've been told you should get at least three, with lots of space for them to hide and rest. these are also a...

Started new tank and added fish.

regarding water changes, invest in a Python. Greatest thing to happen in aquaria. Ever. Ok, that may be taking it a little far, but it will make water changes almost enjoyable. And if they're less of a chore, you'll not mind doing them more often.

Started new tank and added fish.

Do: Partial water changes. Limit this strictly to removing water and adding water, not cleaning any surfaces. As pointed out, surfaces are where your bacteria reside. BTW, PWC's are almost never bad. Fact: Doing a big PWC will not "cause" cloudy water. Yes, there are variables that could...

    Vancouver, BC - mystery snails

why don't any stores carry mystery snails. Each store I go to says they do, but only about once a year, and apparently I never see them. is there anyone in the vancouver area interested in selling any?

what kind of barb is this?

Looking for a name on this barb, so I can look into keeping them...I don't have much to go on, but barbus ???, they get about 5 inches long have a black stripe and a red strike running their length, and they're a longer fish, not a tiger barbish type of tall fish. I think the portrait entitled...

can scaleless fish hold up to heat treatment?

your best course of treatment for ich is treating the whole tank with heat. If you break up the tank into small groups, assuming that medicine will do the trick, you're fooling yourself since you aren't medicating the others that will soon join them once the ich has passed. Medications will...

    Light in tank

Did I miss one of Fishyfanatic's posts? I don't really understand what the "While Fishyfanatic and rich311k can post what they think they have read, some of us either understand and/or have the experience," is about. You're not talking about keeping fish in a closet, are you? Normal room, lit...

Time for a second filter? **UPDATE**

Just re-read...question...are your NO2's or your NO3's high? This will change the solution. NO2's? did you kill off bacteria somehow, causing a minicycle? NO3's? more water changes, or bigger water changes. Hmmm, do you use a Python? Glad you got talked out of getting a new filter...that...
