thanks everyone. I was thinking of maybe a few white clouds, or the rasboras. i definitely won't be overstocking the tank. my other thought was just having guppies in the tank, but i know not to do the betta and them cause it won't work. so i think i'll do betta with 2 or 3 little tetras...

I read in another post something about having airstones in a tank with live plants being a bad thing. I have a 37 Gallon tank, and just bought my first live plant. a really big swordplant (amazon i think). will the airbubbles harm the plant in some indirect way? (i have 3 regular airstones)...

My firemouth was very shy at first too. It took him a good week to become totally comfortable in the tank with the other fish. But now he is the king. No one messes with him! :)

My tap water has a pH of 8.0 - 8.5. My local fish store says that's normal for the area, so it's no big deal. It seems to me that It's better for the fish if I can get the pH below 8. Is it worth messing with, or is messing with pH even harder on the fish? My carbonite hardness is 2 or 3...
