Just got a new very large swordplant in my 37 gallon tank. after browsing through the forum, I see lots of information about lighting being about 2-3 watts per gallon! I currently have a 20 watt bulb on my tank. from what i'm reading, my swordplant is a goner if i don't increase lighting...

    planted tank with airstones

I read in another post something about having airstones in a tank with live plants being a bad thing. I have a 37 Gallon tank, and just bought my first live plant. a really big swordplant (amazon i think). will the airbubbles harm the plant in some indirect way? (i have 3 regular airstones)...

    Nitrate levels in tap water

In the mean time, do you think it's ok for me to still be using the tap water for the water changes? Is there an easy way for me to get other water that's better? What's the deal with distilled water? Is that any good for freshwater tanks? People have mentioned R/O water, but I haven't...

    "crooked" swimming rosy barb

I didn't clarify, I do have nitrite and ammonia tests, and everything is at zero. I was waiting for the Nitrate kit to come in. It has since come in, I checked, and it's just below 25 mg/l, and I'm about due for a water change, so it should drop a bit. The instruction sheet in with the test...

    "crooked" swimming rosy barb

The tank is cycled, it's been running a little over 2 months. The tiger barbs have never messed with the Rosy Barbs. not once. I also have a firemouth cichlid in the tank, and the tiger barbs don't mess with him either. Everyone gets along very well actually. Could it possibly be that he...

    "crooked" swimming rosy barb

I have a pair of rosy barbs. One of them started a bizarre behavior/problem just the other day. Let's see if I can describe it... His body will crookedly "twitch" to the right, especially when trying to swim fast. basically his body curls to the right. Hopefully this is clear enough so you...

    pH adjustment

My tap water has a pH of 8.0 - 8.5. My local fish store says that's normal for the area, so it's no big deal. It seems to me that It's better for the fish if I can get the pH below 8. Is it worth messing with, or is messing with pH even harder on the fish? My carbonite hardness is 2 or 3...
