To plant or not to plant?

You can super glue moss to hardscape items. It's a very easy way to add texture to an otherwise plantless tank.

    What's my pH?

Angelfish. Kuhli Loaches. Sterbai Corydoras. Harlequin Rasboras. As I mentioned there haven't been any issues, and it has been a few weeks.

    What's my pH?

The first three vials are the standard pH test. The first two are straight from the tap on opposite ends of the house in case something is up with my plumbing, which doesn't seem to be the case since they're identical. The third is from the aquarium and pH seems to be about the same as the tap...

    Moon Lighting

Does anyone have any recommendations for moon lighting only for a 55 gallon tank? I already have daytime lights, but I wanted to get something so I can watch the nocturnal fish. Thanks!

    Trimmings?

Does anyone have any trimmings they could pass my way? I'm looking for low tech plants, specifically java moss and maybe duckweed or some other floaters? Please let me know. I'm in Los Angeles, and I'll pay to have it shipped. Thanks in advance!

    Seeding Filter Media

I'm setting up my tank again. I have a goldfish barrel with no mechanical filtration. It has lilies in it. Can I seed my new filter media in the barrel by dipping it in there, and how long would it take to grow the bacteria needed?

    Fancy Goldfish Questions

I was considering a couple of fancy goldfish for my 55-gallon tank, possibly along with some other tankmates. Are there hardier fancy goldfish breeds? I'd assume the less extreme they look, the hardier they would be, but anyone with some insight please share. I personally like the wobble of...

    Angelfish substitute?

Nothing yet. I'm setting it up after a long hiatus. Was thinking a dozen or so Harlequin rasboras and 8 kuhli loaches on the bottom. A slow cruiser would be cool.

    Angelfish substitute?

Anyone have any recommendations for a substitute for Angelfish in a 55 gallon community tank? I was thinking or 4-5 Angelfish originally, but I've kept them before and was think about something different. I'm okay with a single larger fish or multiple fish about the same size.

    Fish glossary?

I saw wikipedia has a relatively comprehensive list for freshwater fish. Has anyone created a sortable list? All the data is on Wikipedia already so tossing it into a spreadsheet so you can search fish by temperature, max size, difficulty level would be cool. Only reason I thought about it was...

Help select my 55 gallon critter squad

Oh and I'm putting some submersible root plants coming in from the lid just to suck up nitrates.

Help select my 55 gallon critter squad

This will be a 55 gallon non-planted tank with sand substrate and rocks for fish to hide behind, but other than that it will be pretty bare. Here's what I was thinking. 10-15 Harlequin Rasboras for the top 4-5 Angelfish for the middle/roaming 8-10 Kuhli Loaches for the bottom Maybe some Mystery...

    LED Lighting

Finnex's site says the Vivid+ supports plants? I do want my fish colors to look brilliant, but I don't need an algae bloom. Is Finnex just doing some over-extension on their marketing?

    LED Lighting

I'm not even sure what's available for a non planted tank right now, but i was just looking at the Current USA Satellite+. Are all these customizable features something that I would even use or would I just make a lightning storm once, and then just never use it again? Would I be better of with...

    55-gallon hardware

I prefer to hide most of the filter, so I want a canister filter. Plus my tank is in a place where a HOB won't fit. The hardware fluorescents seem like a good idea since I'm not going planted.

    55-gallon hardware

It's been six years since I touched my aquarium, and I'm looking to get it set up again. I'm not even sure what's on the market now for equipment. It will be a 55-gallon non planted tropical. Need recommendations on lids, filter, heater (maybe inline), and lighting. Thanks in advance.

    Stand Pipe Cover Rocks

I ended up asking a few manufacturers, and they're all non-toxic. It's the same process that many of the companies use to make larger installations for aquariums and places like Sea World. Of course they suggested I rinse thoroughly when I decide to place one in a tank.

    Stand Pipe Cover Rocks

It's been almost six years since I've logged into this forum. I had a kid and my tank went down the tubes. Thinking about getting it going again. I wanted to keep it simple and go non planted this time, but I wanted some cool decor. Are stand pipe cover rocks aquarium safe? If I had to guess, I...

How can I clear my water?

Did you soak your driftwood for a couple weeks before putting it in the tank? Driftwood leeches tannins into the water. It'll go away over time as you continue water changes. Taking it out and boiling the wood a few times speeds up the leeching process.

    My updated 55 Gallon

African Dwarf Frog African dwarf frog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Very common in fish stores. It was given as a gift to me, and I got tired of taking care of it in his own take so I dropped him into the 55 gallon to see how he would do. He's doing great. No problems finding food or anything.

    My updated 55 Gallon

Mine have no problems with each other whatsoever. There's obviously one big one so he's like the Super Star Destroyer amongst the smaller Star Destroyers in the tank. That might have something to do with the non aggressiveness. There's an obvious chain of command. The other three I bought at the...
