    It's offical: I'm a sucker for a fishy face

Perhaps in her previous life she was a blonde? (Ow, that was a bad one!) I guess I have to withdraw my suggestion to name her "pea-pod" and ammend that to read "pea-brain!" You could try putting a sign near the filter saying "Keep off", but she probably won't read it either. Bob

fluctuating temperature in my 10 gallon, but unavoidble

An alternative would be to look for an inexpensive stand (wrought iron perhaps), or even a concrete block encased in cheap panneling. Just a thought. Bob

    My first fishless cycling experience

Forgive me for jumping in here, but you do need to keep feeding ammonia. The "cycle" is dependant upon ammonia as "food" for the nitrofying bacteria. Without ammonia, the bacteria will die. Once you see NitrItes, you should cut your dosage in half, but continue to add daily. After a while you...

    Stalled cycle

When you first see NitrItes appear, you should continue dosing with ammonia, but 1/2 the amount you initially dosed with. This keeps the beneficial bacteria happy. Only dose 1/2. and continue that. Bob

I still say you should name her "Miss Pea-pod" Why is it that No one ever listens to me? All of my imaginary friend do! Bob

    Greetings From Thailand

Hi block2. Let me add my welcome as well, from the sunny state of Florida, USA. Don't feed the bettas too much beer. They act kind of funny when they drink too much, and often dance on a lily pad with a lampshade on their heads. But, they regret it the next morning. Welcome again. Bob

    Another Fish Joke

I heard this today, thought it was cute, and decided to pass it along in case someone needs a little smile or chuckle, and if a cat lover don’t be offended. Little Timmy was filling in a hole he had dug in his backyard. His nosy neighbor, peering over the fence asked, "What are you doing...

Gold inca snail eat each other?

Hey Kyle, If you get a few more, then you can buy them the "Twister" game and watch them play. ha ha Bob

Since she is so fond of them, I vote for naming her "Pea-Pod". My corys are named "Larry", "Moe", and "Curly". Bob

    Fish Joke

Just a little humor here. Enjoy: Three elderly fish were discussing how they would each like to be remembered after they "passed on" to the "fish tank in the sky." They decided to describe how their eulogy would sound. The first fish said, "When I am stretched out upside down on the...

    What is the problem here?

Hey longlive, All of the fish you have are labeled as "peaceful" and the barb even "timid." However, just as humans, fish do have personalities. Aggression is always an issue when enviornments are crowded or water quality is not up to par. I can only suggest that you provide enough "hiding...

    What is the problem here?

Helolo Longlive, When I first started fishkeeping I was very naive and somewhat dense. I asked folks to explain to me as if I were a six year old. No offense meant to your inteligence, but I will go this route, if I may. In the wild, fish can swim a hundred miles to get away from predators...

    What is the problem here?

Hello longliveglam. I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. First let me just say that every single person on this forum, myself included, has been exactly in your shoes. So you will get no sarcasm or scolding here. I've jumped in simply to offer a few things to help to save your fish. I agree 100%...

    It's offical: I'm a sucker for a fishy face

Hello bluerose, I'm so glad things are working out. You are to be commended for this, and I nominate you as "Betta Mom of the Year!" I'm sure you've heard this, but it does work. Take a pea and cook it (the microwave is OK) but not till it's soft, only firm. Remove the skin and cut into tiny...

    Tiger Barbs... conflicting info.

I absolutely agree with the "tank size" being a huge factor. Just think, in the ocean or lake fish can swim miles to avoid any confrontations, or even if they don't like the "neighborhood." How far can they go in a 10 or 20 or 30 gal tank? I get along great with my mother-in-law as there...

    Black Mouth

Hi smudgeboss. Fish color change can be attributed to many things, stress & sickness being some of them. However, I have been often advised that lighting can be a contributing factor, particularly with black skirts. Perhaps a little more subdued lighting while watching him carefully might...

    Need Help - High Ammonia

Hello soteria. Sorry to hear of your problems. I truly agree on the pro/con issues and feel a need to address the specifics and set opinions aside. From what I have read so far, IMO your fish are not the problem. That is indeed an adequate size tank for your bioload. If I may, please...

quick Q about neon tetras and a 10g

Hi speedmom. I would sort of guess that the main lighting would probably be a matter of your choice, since you don't need for plants and I don't think the fish really care too much as they view light dictated by nature in the wild. On the other hand, I suppose the majority of tropical fish...

quick Q about neon tetras and a 10g

I wouldn't know how to DIY a project like this. Petco has a kit for around $29 which includes the adaptor which clips on the outside back of the tank, and it's the adaptor which plugs into the wall. The kit includes two bulbs which are enclosed in plastic and are waterproof with suction cups...

quick Q about neon tetras and a 10g

Hey speedmom. I have a small school of neons in my community tank and just love them. I've always loved a "species only" tank and Neons are certainly one of the greatest. Remember that they require excellent water quality. Petco sells a kit with three lights (I think they are green...

Hey Alaris. When the tank finally cycles, make sure to give the hubby the credit for it. Us males have big egos! Thanks, Bob

Help me decide how many neon tetras this tank can support?

Hey Korith. Just a side note here. And this is purely for aesthetic reasons. It is truly a sight to see a large school of neon tetras schooling. Some folks prefer to mix cardinals with the neons, but I have found when viewing them, our eyes seem to focus on seeing the differences, whereby...

    Euthanizing Coldwater Fish

Hi sarah5775. Forgive me for jumping in here, but I would like to offer just a few suggestions and ideas. If they are perceived as wrong or invalid, then I'll go stand in the corner for "time out." Please understand that I mean no disrespect to the advice you have been given, nor to the path...
