Just Est. my first freshwater tank! YAY!

Canopy Light All-Glass makes a double tube light fixture for a 29 gal. for approx. $50. All-Glass also makes a 29 gal. glass top for around $20. This combination may produce enough light for some aquarium plants, and also leave enough glass top surface for an additional light fixture (Coralife...

    Starting a 55gal Tropical Community

Planted Community Tank Start-Up You may consider increasing your filtration by another filter like the BioWheel you have noted, or a canister filter. I have a "settled in" 55 gal. heavily planted community tank that requires 2 h.o.b. power filters (1 is large BioWheel equipped) and an XP-2...

What's the worst aquarium mistake you've made?

Worst Mistake As already mentioned: introducing fish before 55 gal. tank was completely cycled. Did not lose all my fish, but enough of my old veterans to really regret my impatience!

    Mollies starnge behavior

Mad Mollies Scratching against rocks reads like Ich/Ick, especially if followed by small white spots. Do you have a heater? Fluctuating temperatures will make fish susceptible to disease. Its good practice to keep no more than one male Molly per three or four females. The males will literally...

    Bettas and Community Fish?

Community Male Betta? My wife and I have maintained community tanks of various sizes for over 30 years, and bred Bettas when first married. All this time we have had a male Betta included in each community tank with no problems. Initially, some storebought/tiny bowl Bettas have flared their...

Via Aqua 100 Watt Glass Heater

Via Aqua Saga I'm pretty sure that the LFS owner is ignorant about this heater, and he just purchased the shop last week. There's a FAX number included with the heater, so I'm going to send off aquestionaire that addresses my concerns. As installed, the heater is doing fine, and the water...

Via Aqua 100 Watt Glass Heater

I just purchased this cheaply priced heater from a LFS last night. It appears to be submersable, and has no clamp like the old clamp-to-the-frame type heaters. It does include 2 suction cups and brackets, already attached. The written instructions (all English!) direct you not to allow the...

    Need filtration help!!!

Until you get your canister filter(s), consider adding inexpensive sponge prefilters to your HOB filter intakes. You will cut your frequency of filter pad rinses by at least 1/2. Before the prefilter sponges clog completely, give them a quick rinse in dechlorinated water (to save good bacteria)...

Attaching Coralife Light Fixtures to Canopy

Attaching Coralife Light Fixtures to Canopy

I have a LFS purchased wood canopy for my 55 gal. FW planted tank. In addition, I also have 2 Coralife 2-28Watt light fixtures that are currently lying on top of the existing tank frame. I would like to attach these fixtures to the underside of the canopy's top, to aid in reducing heat build-up...

Thanks for the welcome. My wife would like to have a saltwater tank, maybe I'll have to confer with you on that in the future.

    Hi, From Richmond, Virginia

Thanks for the welcome! I'm still new here, and haven't found "Information Page" details. Where is all that located on here, and how to set up? Thanks for the information on the Washington club, I didn't know a fish club on Saturdays, which is more convenient than having to drive thru...

    Hi, From Richmond, Virginia

Glad I recently found this site with excellent advice and great participants. New laptop & fast internet were my excuse to join up. I have a 75 gal set-up, waiting for some home improvement to be completed for addition of water & live stuff. My existing 55 is heavily planted with Flourite, DIY...
