My Oscar's have been together for 2 years and always got along well. I moved them into a larger tank a couple of days ago and now I can't tell if they hate each other or are mating? They swim at each other from opposite sides of the tank with mouths wide open until one backs down and turns...
A good starter plant is Hornwart, which you can lets float at the top of the tank, where it will thrive. Hornwart also provides a good hiding place for livebearer (platies, mollies, guppies) fry to hide. I had it in my tank for about 2 years and it saved countless baby platies.

I have 2 Oscars, and u should NEVR put fish that are smaller than they are in their tank, unless they have spines (i.e. Catfish, Plecos). Anything small than an OScar will end up as food for an Oscar. :(
