Your guppies will not fight with each other just because they are also male. They will however fight each other over a female. 1 tank full of males = no problems. Add one female = big problem.

By the way, about your second question on the number of fish. If you do frequent water changes then you can put a lot, as these are usually small fishes. As you can see from my profile, I have around 26 organisms in the planted tank, no problems so far (fingers crossed). :wink: I change water...

I found this a common problem with Aqua Clear filters. It happens because air somehow gets into the motor due to low level of water in tank (in correct submersion) or not enough water being in the media container when filter is running.

In my (limited) experience pleco catfish usually do not do well in high alkaline waters (such as when you mix aquarium salt). Would be interested to know if others faced similar problems.

Neuve, I agree with Electrobes, from personal experience. Bettas like smaller places. The largest aquarium it should be in is a 10g. It MAY survive in a 20g, but anything larger and bettas get stressed. I would advise moving it to a smaller aquarium.

Yes, this is what I was also going to suggest but forgot. If you can handle it, do atleast 40% a day. Make sure your water has conditioner tha removes iron and phosphate in addition to chlorine.

as you may know, algae needs light and minerals to grow. Since you can't put any new fish (I was thinking algae eaters) coz they might die, best is to shut out the light and minerals. YOu can wrap a piece of blanket or something around the tank, and not use the lights (fish won't be bothered)...

Thanks all who replied. I switched the filter to low power, and yesterday there were six fry, who seemed to not be bothered by the current. They all seem to hang around the floating plants though, except when I give food. Thanks again for your suggestions.
