    Do I need to Re-Cycle?

Good news! I have been feeding the tank a couple times a week. The peppermint shrimp loves flake food. I'll check my log when I get home & post the parameters (all were 0 on Wednesday, I have to run all again today) Thanks :D

    Do I need to Re-Cycle?

Since I lost my only fish (midas blenny) a little over a week ago, I decided to allow the tank to go fallow for 6 weeks (just in case). Do I need to cycle the tank again prior to getting a new fish? Current tank inhabitants are: 1 huge peppermint shrimp w/ eggs 2 hermits 2 large astrea snails...

Penny died - What went wrong?

I came home from work yesterday, looked at my tank & noticed the water was slightly cloudy. I quickly did a head count & found my Midas Blenny's lifeless body curled up in her favorite rock. I removed her from the tank and inspected what was left. Her limp body was smooth, covered in a light...

    Ready for another fish

I'm ready to buy another fish! I have a 12 gal eclipse with a midas blenny, I would like to get one more fish (don't want to have a bio load issue). Does anyone have any suggestions on a small non-aggressive species?

Quick to discourage??? split from original post...

Overall, I really think everyone in the forum tries their best to give clear, concise information in a well meaning manner. We're here because of our love of fish & all the accoutrements. Remember we are ALL still learning. **So if you think a reply is snippy, take a step back, re-read it...

    20 gallon sw pointless

I have a 12gal FOWLR. It requires a little more work than a 55 gal, but I'm happy with my decision (small apt- limited space).

    What water do you use?

I have a RO unit, I generate about 10 gals a week. I hooked up my RO unit by using a diverter aerator on my faucet. No additional plumbing work required. You pull the pin on the aerator to divert the water through a tube into the RO unit.

    NY taxes.......so frustrating!

I feel I'm taxed enough. I haven't seen the forms yet, but this is ridiculous. :x I'm planning on tackling the tax forms after the LAST exam (wish me luck!) Pataki looks like he's 3 sheets to the wind with that goofy grin. I can just picture him wandering around Albany with a scotch...

I took the shrimp out when nitrites peaked, had a baggy handy. Like Todd said, it's a foul smell that lingers.

    All "Shell" Broke Loose

Hi all- Just got back from vacation in Maine (it was chilly!). The first thing I did when I walked in the door, check on Fred the turtle & the aquarium. Needless to say the aquarium needed a good scrubbing and a water change, but to my surprise, I was missing a scarlet leg hermit. His shell...

Any help for a bad green hair alge outbreak

Watch out for those pencil urchins! Just found out on this site that they can attack fish. Like Scuba Steve said, timers are cheap , not to mention convenient.

    Humongous pods! (amphipods)

I have a huge amphipod that's 3/4" hunched over, & a bunch that are only mms in length. They scurry around one rock in particular. Used to see huge ones (2") on fuchus vesiculosis (seaweed) while in Maine.

    Long sticky arm

Found something new, but don't know what it could be. He lives in the sand under the LR ( & it's not Squidworth) ... the only part I've seen is a 1/2 inch opaque tenticle like arm reaching up & outward to gather small bits of shell & grains of sand to surround it's home. It will gather stuff...
