Should I add a Dwarf Gourami to this tank? Overstocked or OK?

I got my Neon Dwarf Gourami today. It seems as though he is too docile, because he just hides among the plants in the very back of the tank the whole time...

Should I add a Dwarf Gourami to this tank? Overstocked or OK?

Thank you both for the replies! And to answer your question, yes, I do test my water (API liquid).

Should I add a Dwarf Gourami to this tank? Overstocked or OK?

Hi! I used to have a gorgeous Dwarf Gourami in my tank, but he died suddenly about a month after having him (DG disease?). I had been worried about possible aggression, because DG's can be a hit or a miss in a community tank. However, upon selecting a DG I chose the one in the tank that seemed...

How to heal raggedy Betta fins? (pics)

Ah, I see. What a shame. :( As far as food goes, I usually feed my Bettas bloodworms, brine shrimp, and pellets (on alternating days, of course). Is that adequate?

How to heal raggedy Betta fins? (pics)

Hi, A week ago I adopted a Betta from my neighbor. Their 4 year old child grew bored of her new pet and the mother could no longer find time to clean out the 2.5 gallon tank herself. So, I took him in and he has settled into my 5 gallon heated, filtered, and cycled tank with a Zebra Nerite...

Which school should I add fish to?

It's a 20H. And I am using an AquaClear 30... I can't remember but I believe I am at a 99-105% filter capacity, so looks good. Also, I do a 40% (give or take a gallon) PWC each week.

How big is your weekly water change?

I do a 40% every seven days, mostly because that's what I feel comfortable with. Too much less than that and I feel nervous that my tank is not clean enough haha. Btw, I love your signature. :thumb:

How big is your weekly water change?

Out of curiosity, I am interested in knowing what is the most common PWC %. Feel free to leave a comment explaining why you change the water x amount. For example, "I do a large PWC because my tank is heavily stocked." or "I am able to do a small PWC because my tank is understocked."

Which school should I add fish to?

Hi, So in my 20g Community I have the following fish: x6 Neon Tetras x5 Orange Von Rio Flame Tetras x4 Julii Cories x3 Guppies x2 Zebra Nerite Snails According to AqAdvisor, my tank is at 96%.* I would like to take the opportunity to add a fish or two to one of the schools (or shoal). I don't...

Am I doing this right? (Betta died, prepping tank for new one)

Thanks for your concern. So Dropsy in the tank is still an issue? I know it is not contagious, but I wasn't aware that the germs could linger behind. I thought the fish just developed Dropsy from bad water quality, and that the fish wouldn't get it in good water quality. If I have to...

Am I doing this right? (Betta died, prepping tank for new one)

Hi, Why the fish died: Okay, so I myself have a 20g and a 5g with my own Betta, Enrique. Don't worry, he isn't the one who has died. Unfortunately, however, it was my brother's Betta. I'm the one who's actually into fish, my brother was just kind of interested at first but got 'bored'. But, I'm...

    Betta has dropsy!

Today I found my brother's Betta fish lying at the bottom of the tank with raised scales. There was slight head movement when he saw me but not much else. He wasn't home, so I immediately did a 50% water change and changed the filter pad (it was atrociously filthy). When he came home, I asked...

How do you use a syphon that attaches to the sink faucet?

Wow, thanks for all the responses! I really appreciate the help. I always try my best to match the water temp. I just bring a cup of water from the tank and use it for reference over at the sink. So basically, whether I take out 2 gallons or 10 gallons, I still add 20 gallons worth of water...

How do you use a syphon that attaches to the sink faucet?

Thanks for the replies. My parents got me that type of water changer today because they didn't like how I had to lift the heavy buckets. So, I need to make sure I understand what I'm doing before I use it: So basically, you can just add the de-chlorinator to the tank and then fill it up with...

How do you use a syphon that attaches to the sink faucet?

Hi guys, I've always just cleaned my tanks by just syphoning water into buckets, dumping it out, re-filling with dechlorinated water, and pouring back into the tank. This works fine with my 5g, all I need are two buckets. One to take out the water, and another that I fill with de-chlorinated...

Why did my fish suddenly die?

Thanks for replying. I've actually never had a problem with any Neons until now. A year ago, when I first established my tank, I cycled it and added fish slowly. When I got up to 3 male guppies and the 4 cories I added 4 Neons. (I was too afraid to do 6 at one time) Then I added 2 more, but...

Why did my fish suddenly die?

Hi, Thanks for the reply. Take a look at my "My Tanks". There are [now] five Neon Tetras, five Orange Von Rio Flame Tetras, 4 Julii Cories, 3 Male Guppies, and 2 Zebra Nerite Snails. I'm not familiar with the Neon Tetras disease, so I'll look it up.

Why did my fish suddenly die?

Hi guys, I haven't been on here/posted a thread in quite a while now. Because I have been soooo busy lately, I have only have time to come on here and post a thread if there is something wrong. Well, there hasn't been anything wrong with my tank for a while now, until today. I went down to...

Thanks! My comments below in blue. Yeah, I get what you're saying there, I just thought it was weird because two of the snails are very active, while one of them is SOOOOO lazy. lol. Thanks for your help! P.S I just noticed a bunch of new emoticons! I like these...

Cryptocoryne Willisii not doing so well in my tank?

Hm.. good question. I just checked a receipt I found from when I bought the plants, and I have had the Crypt for 25 days now. So, should I be fertilizing? Also, I will try to get some pics up soon, because I heard something about a rhizome in plants? Not sure what that is, but I heard it should...

Cryptocoryne Willisii not doing so well in my tank?

Hi there, In my 20g tank I have an Anubias Nana, Java Fern, and Crypocoryne Willisii under a 6,700k light strip. The Java Fern is doing great, the Anubias is recovering from my clumsiness (I accidentally... ripped it in half... because I wasn't expecting it to be so fragile at first), but the...

    Question About Giving Snails Calcium

Hi, I have three Zebra Nerite Snails, two in my 20g and one in my 5g. The two in the 20 are doing great, they move around the tank a lot, though I have never seen them eating any algae wafers that I drop in. Regardless, I think they are doing okay though because they are active. Anyway, the...

    My wife's cichlid tank.

This is true, but also if you think about it, the consumer might think they are educating themselves firsthand by asking a "fish guy," not realizing they are getting the wrong advice. However I still agree that they should do more research first, rather than take the first advice they get. Also...
