    Cloudy water from ferts?

I've been dosing ferts with PPS pro for a week now (using the kit from green leaf aquariums) and my water had turned more and more cloudy this week. Am I doing something wrong? I'm dosing the recommended amount as specified on the green leaf website which is a ml per 10 gallons.

    Lighting timers

So I work all the time and have been leaving my lights on too long. Does anyone have a light timer they recommend? Preferably pretty cheap? It would be such a big help, thanks.

    Light Question

Hi I have a 70g planted community tank and it's time to upgrade my lighting. Right now I just have the lights that came with it. There's a 10k Coralife and an actinic bulbs in there so I know I need some ones that are more appropriate for plants. I don't know what kind of bulbs they are...

Holes in Leaves and Dying Plants

The setup first: 70g freshwater tank PFS substrate Dose with Flourish Comprehensive with weekly PWC, daily Flourish excel, Flourish root tabs every few months Plants: anubias, Java fern, jungle vals, amazon swords, a small spiky plant that propagates that I can't remember the name of, and a few...

Supplemental Light for a Fluval Edge

I have a 6g Fluval Edge with 4 CPDs and a sparkling gourami that is pretty heavily planted (you can check the link in my profile for more info). I've had an issue getting enough light to the space around the middle of the tank where the built in lights shine down. I replaced the out-of-the-box...

    Holes in lily pads

I have both dwarf lilies and banana plants in my planted 65g tank and I've recently been having the trouble of their lily pads developing holes, eventually to the point where they've almost rotted away. I dose Excel daily and Comprehensive weekly after PWCs and it seems like all of the other...

20g long or 40g corner tank

I have two tanks sitting in my basement now, just waiting to be filled. I've stuck mainly to freshwater for a while now and might want to try a reef tank sometime later this year. My question is which tank would be more suitable for a reef tank? The 20g long or the 40g corner pentagonal tank...

Wanted: Cherry Shrimp and Fire or Willow Moss

I'm looking for fire moss or willow moss and some Cherry Shrimp for a nano setup that I'm doing. I'm in CT for pickup or would pay for shipping. PM if you've got some!

    Filter cleanup

I have a 65g planted tank and recently the HOB aquaclear filter seems to be having to be having trouble doing its job and the water never seems to be as clear as it used to. I have heard a lot of different things regarding cleaning filters, and it seems the consensus is that rinsing the sponge...

    Moss Possibilities

I have some java moss in my tank, but I'm not a huge fan of its looks. It tends to look a little ragged and messy. I have seen mosses in tanks that I like, though, where it's a little green and, well, mossier. What are some other mosses that I could look into for my tank. I've got a 65g heavily...

    WBAC88's 65g (possbile) Riparium Journal

I've had a 65g planted tank going for about 10 (?) months now and it's gone through several iterations. As a brief history, partly for myself and partly for anyone else who's interested: The beginning: The first big planting: The first re-scape: Now, I've just re-scaped it a second time...

    DIY Light Mount

So, I decided that I needed a project today and since I'm thinking about slowly adding some riparium elements to my 65g planted tank, I thought that I would make a DIY mount for my light so that I could raise and lower it depending on how high out of the tank the plants would eventually grow...

    Replanting Chain Sword Help

I'm in the middle of replanting my 65g tank and I'm having some trouble with my chain swords. I have two colonies of them and, especially with the smaller runners, I'm having trouble keeping them in the substrate (pool filter sand). Any suggestions for helping to keep them grounded. Sould I...

    Angelfish Growth

I've had a set of four angelfish (trying to find a mated pair) for probably four months now. When I got them, they were small, maybe the size of a half-dollar, including fins, but since then I haven't noticed any appreciable growth. Are angel fish just very slow growers or could I be doing...

    Black Growths on Glass

I was doing a PWC on my 65g planted tank this morning and noticed in one corner little, black, star-looking growths on the glass. There's quite a few of them, but they're all clustered in that corner. They're small, maybe a centimeter wide, and I can't get a good shot of them with my camera...

    Fluval Edge Aquascaping Help

So, I've had a Fluval edge up and running for about 5 months now, with 4 celestial pearl danios and a sparkling gourami and a bunch of snails. For plants (see below) I've got a sword and an anubias. I switched out the lights that came with it for some LEDs. Its substrate is gravel, but I'm not...

    Newly Territorial Angel

In my 65g planted I have 4 black angels that I bought in the hope of increasing the chances of getting a mated pair. They're all young and small, but today I noticed that one of them has seemingly staked a claim to the middle-top portion of the tank. What does this mean? He (I assume "he") is...

    Bamboo Shrimp Molting

So my bamboo shrimp just molted for the first time, and I've heard that they can be sensitive to water changes and chemicals for a while afterwards. Should I stop dosing excel and avoid a water change for a little while? He's been looking a little under the weather for a few days, but is...

    New Driftwood, So Excited!

I just got my new driftwood from thedriftwoodstore.com (can't recommend enough) and it's amazing! I can't wait to get it into my 65g. I'm in the middle of a algae bloom, though, so it'll be a little while before I can put it in, but I had to share it with people who'll appreciate it. Don't let...

    Giant Algae Growth

I have a 65g planted, low light/low tech tank that I dose with Excel flourish and do weekly 50% PWCs. There has always been some algae, but within the last week, it started growing out of control, all over the plants, the glass, the rocks, the driftwood and the PFS that I use for substrate. Any...

    Replanting my 65g

I recently bought an awesome looking piece of driftwood from thedriftwoodstore.com which is coming in the mail sometime this week. It's a big one, though, and I'm going to have to do some replanting to make it fit and to get things a little bit more organized in the tank overall. I wanted to ask...

    Pairing off Angels

So, I've done quite a bit of reading on getting a breeding pair of angels, and most things I read said to get a group of them and see which ones pair off and then re-home the rest. That's fine, but how exactly would I tell if they were pairing off? Would they start swimming only together and not...

    Fish ID?

One of my friends gave me a fish that they had gotten at Petsmart that they were told was some kind of "leaf gourami" or something and that it liked lots of foliage. They had it in a community tank, but it was shy and getting harassed by some of the more active members of the tank. In short...

    Planted 65g tank question

So I've been slowly working on a 65g planted tank with PFS as substrate. This was my first real tank, so I just wanted to get it up and running before I had any real chance of thinking about what kind of planting I wanted. I got a random assortment of low light plants from online and tried...

Swap: or Free: School of 5 Giant Danios - Waterbury CT

Hey, I have a school of five giant danios that I'm looking to trade, or even give away if someone doesn't have anything they're looking to get rid of. There's nothing wrong with them, they're all healthy and active, but they're being bullies to some other fish that I want in the tank more and...
