Just need to confirm something about substrate

I have a tank that used to be planted but I decided to remove the plants because the fish wouldn't let them take root. They just rearranged as they saw fit, which is fine, lesson learned. I have planted tank substrate still in the take which over the past 2 years put root tabs in a number of...

I have to say I agree with the suggestion of a Severum. They have some awesome personalities too!

I would think that the Shark is already the centerpiece, yes?

I want to know about Firemouth Cichlids

Is there anything that those basic fish profiles from countless websites don't tell us about Firemouths? Are there any little quirks or stuff like that that a new Firemouth owner should know?? Anything is appreciated! Thanks

Can a mod move this over to Cichlid discussion please??

    Severum???

The fish mixture would be fin in terms of aggression. The smaller fish like the rummy nose and rasboras you might find being picked off one by one, But that's only when the severum gets big enough to eat them.

Need help - Moving tank to another room

Yeah that's gonna be heavy but if you can do it, you can do it. I think your plan of action is a good one. However, I wouldn't move the tank AND stand together. I mean, if it's possible, I would take the tank off the stand and move them separately. Do you have enough ppl to do that?

Slight scale issue on our Denison Barb

From that short video, to me, it looks like he ran into something and has a little cut. I say this because my Severum has something that looks similar at the moment except on his forehead. Also, I notice that whenever he gets spooked he jets away without any sense of direction and sometimes...

Best method to keep plants alive in fish tank?

In my humble opinion, the "hierarchy of keeping plants alive" would be lighting, good substrate, Co2 and then Ferts. The correct lighting is needed as a basis for photosynthesis, the substrate (for rooted plants) is where the majority of nutrition comes from, Co2 to boost the 'energy' to...

Another thread about Rainbow Shark Aggression

Yeah severum mama I think that may be my best choice. Let it grow for a little while in another tank until he gets the size and brass to defend himself. I really do love the rainbow shark, he's one of my oldest fish. :-( It's sad to see that. I have noticed that this morning, the chasing...

Another thread about Rainbow Shark Aggression

Firemouth has been in there for 2 days and is about half the size of the shark. I don't know what to do because the shark is relentless. The firemouth is clearly and visibily submissive, yet the shark keeps at it. If they were just establishling a hierarchy the shark would get the hint...right?

Another thread about Rainbow Shark Aggression

I wouldn't post about this if I could find answers, but, when scouring the interwebs I just can't find good enough answers. I have a 55g tank with a green severum who is about 5 inches..so not very big yet. The rainbow shark is in there as well and he is about 5 inches as well. It is my...

    Help Identifying the plant.

Well the roots need to be planted but it's not a truly aquatic plant. (if it is one of the hedges) So eventually the plant will die underwater. I mean, i could be mistaken on the plant ID. Post another picture once it's planted. Maybe we can confirm the ID with some other pics. We're here to...

    Help Identifying the plant.

Looks like Green Hedge or Cherry Hedge, both of which are actually SEMI-AQUATIC plants. They will die if kept underwater too long. Pet stores like to sneak them in with fully aquatic plants and sell them to unsuspecting customers. Sorry, but that's what it looks like to me.

    Stocking 66g tank

You have to be careful about what cichlids you put in there, some of the ones mentioned by deadman (while awesome) can get very aggressive and you need to be sure you can handle that. Great choices, just a heads up.

    Dry ferts question

Ok cool. Yeah my question was about using R/O water for my entire tank. But if I can use the tap water for water changes, and then use distilled water to make the fert solution, that's awesome. Thanks guys
