Cichlids flashing need a second opinion

Thje mystery is solved. I have some talapia in with the first three pairs I added (to try and calm down the aggression) but them removed them a few days later when the rest of the stock came in. The Malawi tank still shows no spots but noticed the talapia have a few on their tails so I'd say...

Cichlids flashing need a second opinion

I have just converted my 240Ltr tank to a Malawi setup. All the fish in the tank are new and most of them are flashing. My tank is over 2 years old and the readings are: Ammonia=0 Nitrite=0 Nitrate=10 PH=7.8 GH=14 Normally I would assume the flashing (which is along the gravel) would be ICH...

What to add to R.O water?

I have just purchase a R.O unit which I will be using for freshwater fish. My reason for doing this is because of losing a whole tank of plecs due to chemicals being added to my water supply by the water company. I have the R.O unit all working but would like to know what people use to make the...

I guess its about time I started to do some research about mating gouramis. As yet I don't see any eggs but my male seems more colorful than usual or maybe I am just imagining it :) My female does look rather plump so fingers crossed..baby Gouramis will soon be with us :D P.S If anyone has...

    My Gourami is acting strange

I have a pair of dwarf gouramis which I got a couple of months back. Two days ago I moved them to a bigger community tank that just has cories and a couple of small plecs (peppermint and a 3 in royal). The tank has a few floating plants ..well not so much floating as up-rooted  My male...

    Harlequin swimming awkwardly

I think the problem is sorted. After a day in hospital the patient is now FULLY recovered. This is what I am thinking was the problem: I have 3 very persistent males who are looking for some action. I think she was just exhaused from her efforts to escape their attention and quite stressed...

    Harlequin swimming awkwardly

One of my female Harlequins is having problems swimming. I first noticed her swimming with her head up towards the top of the tank but when I went to catch her she started to swim normally again so I thought I would just keep an eye on her for a little while :? She continued to swim head up...

    What fish would be good?

Ok I went out to buy Cichlids  I found plenty but nearly every tank in the shop had one or more dead fish in it! This is normally a good shop but not today :( We went to another shop (Derby Garden Centre) who always have healthy fishys, people on hand to advise and are fairly priced...

    What fish would be good?

Thanks to all for your advice but now I'm thinking I maybe need to look at just one of the fish (possible cilchids) and building the tank mates around them. One solution I feel would work (and I am beginning to bore my partner so much that I might succeed) is to get a MUCH bigger tank that...

    What fish would be good?

Many thanks Menagerie Great link! I am being drawn to the Acara and one I really like and know is available is the Keyhole Cichlid. The info states they are peaceful and that Gouramis are suitable companions. The info also says they are small at around 3-4 ins in captivity so my tanks...

Menagerie what cichlids would you recommend that would be happy in a 4 foot tank? Do they need to be kept in a group or on their own? Sorry for all the questions but good research makes happy fishes

    The ICH Experiment HELP!

I have it again and there is nobody to blame but myself! My first bout of ICH happened because I introduced 3 clowns (all died) without first putting them into QT.
