I would go with the aqua clear 70 or aqua clear 110. Always go higher if possible. Canister filter has to be under the aquarium. If you want to go with the emperor series then get a 400 not a 280.

So long as it isn't tempered you can drill it now and just keep the water level low enough that it doesn't overflow. So if you are drilling the bottom just wait to cut the PVC pipe to the water level until you are ready for the sump. If you are drilling the side or back just keep the water level...

Try fixing it with aquarium safe epoxy and maybe if that don't work just call hagen and order a new case

Yes that will work. Just Google "ac filter mods" you will find tons of results of people doing that. I just wondered if it would work the other way around. So far the 110 impeller in the 70 worked....but I gotta wait till my order gets here to be able to tell about the smaller models

Yes unless you need more biological space and maybe a lower flow then just go backwards...run an ac 70 with a ac20 impeller for maybe 5 or 10 gallons

The ac 110 has a larger motor and impeller magnet so I doubt it will work....the 70 and under just use different impellers and the same motor

As long as the brush doesn't have any metal on it. Every manufacturer will tell you that nothing containing metal should be used to clean the motor because it is an electromagnetic motor. I'm not sure what damage it will do but its always a good precaution.

And yes there is room to add basically any media you want. My 280 held almost a gallon of water so there is plenty of room in there. It will also come with media containers that can be used to add whatever coarse media you like. I always run extra Marineland carbon in mine.

I don't currently have one but when I had my 36 gallon bow front I had one and I loved it. It isn't too loud just a hum is all you will hear. It turns over a lot of water and always kept my water parameters in check.

That's the hard way of doing it. Just remove all the media, dump out the water, turn the filter over and twist the motor off 90 degrees. The impeller and motor will come out for a thorough cleaning. I recommend a cotton swab to clean the impeller and the motor housing where the impeller sits...

Its definitely not the water conditioner. I use Prime and it doesn't create foam in my aquarium. If it says on the bottle that it will not over activate protein skimmers then it will not cause foam from air stones or filters.

I actually just got done removing the paint. It basically just wiped off, I'm guessing BC it has been in the water. The portion that was outside of the water just plain wouldn't budge

I let mine dry for 24 hours but was pressed for time to get it in the tank before my family come back from vacation so they wouldn't notice I built it. Less fussing = happiness for me. Would it be better just to rebuild the overflow rather than crape all the paint off?
