I don't like the glass top lids and have gotten into the habit of just removing them. So, the only thing over the top of my tank is the light strips. Would you be concerned that some of the fish could/would jump from the tank?? Or is it fine to leave the tank "open"?

Is there a rule or whatnot as to how low a canister filter needs to be? If I have a short stand, can I put the filter in the floor next to the tank? It would be well below the water surface but it would rise above the bottom of the tank. Is that ok?
