    African Dwarf Frog Question

I've got a couple in my ten gallon with a Betta. The Betta was very curious about them for a few days when they first went in the tank, because he had been living alone for about a month. He would notice them moving, and swim top speed across the tank to them and flare... but he never showed...

    Aquaclear?...

It won't hurt to put it in, but I would save it until you need to use it for something specific. Once you put it in the filter, it doesn't serve its purpose for very long. I bought the extra pack of sponges, and just run two of those with the bag of biomedia. I've got the carbon saved just in...

    Aquaclear?...

I have the AquaClear 70, and I'm very happy with it. I really like how customizable it is... I run two sponges and the biomax in mine. Cleaning is a breeze. I just pop the basket out, swish the biomax around in tank water and squeeze out the sponges. Only negative I found was the top lid...

    Not enough to eat

I have Black Mollies... they eat like hogs, and still constantly pick at the driftwood in my tank. Maybe it's a livebearer thing haha!

can I add a soil/clay peat/clay mix to an already set up tank?

I have read on other forums about people putting thin sheets of wet dirt into the freezer. After its frozen, they slide it under the existing substrate to melt into place. I have never done this, but from what I have read, it works fairly well.

    potential tank mates?

A friend of mine has pretty much the same setup you are talking about. (7 neons and 3 cories) He added the Betta to the tank last, and he immediately flared and killed one of the tetras. He hasn't had any issues since, though. I have read that neons could get nippy towards a Betta, so that's...

    driftwood

I just did mine once, and let it cool down to room temp. I then gave it a wash in the sink and stuck it in the tank. (Added dechlor to the tank first just in case the wood absorbed chlorine from my tap) I had to secure it to a rock, because it still wanted to float... but I have heard if you...

    driftwood

I collected all the wood in my tanks from rivers and ponds. I would highly suggest putting it in a tub or container of some kind and pour enough boiling water over it to cover it... then let it sit for a while, just to make sure there are no nasty parasites or bugs living in it before you stick...

    Help! I don't know what's going on!

I actually had this same thought, so that's what i did when I set up a ten gallon for my kids a few weeks ago. I had filter material from my main tank, so I just started the dose at 1ppm and worked my way up to 4ppm. Cycled it in a week. I've seen a lot of threads around different forums too...

    Help! I don't know what's going on!

I had the same thing happen with my fishless cycle. Started the cycle by dosing ammo to 4ppm until it started dropping, then started half dosing. It stalled in the nitrite part for about a month. (didn't ph crash or anything either) I decided to do water changes to try and kick start it...

    Cycling help

3ppm of ammo is very high with fish in there. (it's burning their gills) Not sure what test kit you are using, but when I did a fishless cycle with the API liquid test kit, that much ammo in the water gave false high readings for nitrate.

    Ghost Shrimp

I have no experience with shrimp, but I have a school of Serpae that picked apart a rather large apple snail. They got along for a few weeks, then out of the blue decided the snail was lunch.

    Test result help

Very true. My water from the tap always measures .25 ammo with the API kit. Really freaked me out when I first started using liquid tests lol!

new to forum and new tank

Hey everyone! I ran across this site a couple months ago when I was looking for information on how to do a fishless cycle. Love these forums... tons of information! I finally managed to cycle my tank after reading through a ton of posts here... it tested my patience greatly, but I stuck it...

The (almost) Complete Guide and FAQ to Fishless Cycling

Thanks! I did the floating bag acclimation method and slowly added tank water like your instructions. Ended up getting 4 Rainbow Cichlids (hoping to get a pair), 9 Serpae Tetras and an Apple Snail. They have been in for a few hours now, and all seem to be doing great! Serpae's immediately began...
