Is this a full stock for a 30g?

Well I think the reason fish stores are able to do that is partially bc the fish come and go so quickly. But you do have a lot more equipment than most hobbyists. Is it a cichlid tank?

Is this a full stock for a 30g?

Thank you for the advice but like I said in my original post, we will not be getting more glofish. This guy has had from 3-5 friends in the past but they've all passed on from old age at this point. I expect he isn't too far behind but for now he's happily playing with the rasboras and following...

Is this a full stock for a 30g?

We are currently in the process of setting up a 30 gallon tall tank that is an upgrade to our 20 long. Current stocking in the 20 gallon: 5 glass catfish 7 harlequin rasboras 1 long-fin albino BN 1 male swordtail 1 glofish 3 otos Planned to add once upgraded: 3 rasboras 2 otos We're...

No you explained it perfectly. This is exactly the kind of in-depth advice I was hoping for, thanks!

So what determines bioload? Common sense tells me type and amount of food eaten and amount of waste generated (but how is that measured?), are there other factors?

    general stocking practices

Experienced aquarists, when you're planning how to stock a tank, what do you take into consideration to determine if it's fully stocked? Obviously fish have to be compatible tempermentally and with the water parameters. But how do you know how many fish are not enough, too much, or just right...

    Good stock?

I would actually say one is plenty for algae. We have one young BN in our 55g with high lighting and he keeps it extremely clean.

    30 Tall Stocking

That inch rule isn't all that accurate, though. For example, 4" glass catfish is MUCH different than a 4" BN in terms of bioload. It may be good as a jumping off point, but I would never consider stocking on that rule alone.

    30 Tall Stocking

Since my original post we decided that if we add more stock, we're going to make it a priority to add more otos and rasboras, then explore other options from there. I was under the impression that swordtails do best on their own, and we're pretty tired of the artificial-looking glofish, to be...

    30 Tall Stocking

We are currently in the process of setting up a 30 gallon tall tank that is an upgrade to our 20 long. Our current stocking in the 20 gallon is: 5 glass catfish 7 harlequin rasboras 1 long-fin albino BN 1 male swordtail 1 glofish 3 otos It feels understocked right now because the glass cats...

You know what, it literally never occurred to me to buy fish on eBay. But no I haven't heard of them by any name. Too bad our tanks are stocked up for now! I'm definitely adding them to my wishlist.

    20g stocking question

Really? That seems overstocked to me...Is it because they have light bioloads?

    20g stocking question

Current stocking in my established 20 gallon is 3 glass catfish, 3 otos, a glofish, and a juvenile long-finned albino bristlenose pleco. Until recently there was a male swordtail and 4 glofish. However, 3 of the glofish succumbed to stress from our move in November. The swordtail was moved to...
