Update on scratching - more questions

Actually, it's a 29-gallon tank, rather than 20 gallons. Current population is: 3 gouramis 6 tigers 4 cherrys 6 copper tetras for a total of 19, in a 29-gallon tank.

Update on scratching - more questions

Hey all - I posted originally as this thread below: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=2999 I was dealing with some cherry barbs scratching not long after putting some new fish into the tank. I resolved to dose with Melafix and salt for seven days, and raised the temperature to...

    Scratching against things

A quick update: The gourami seems like it's not scratching anymore, but two of the cherries, and possibly a 3rd, are now. I've been using the Melafix (it's really only been 2.5 days), along with extra salt, and the temp. is now 86. Visually, fish look fine - one of the cherries seems to be...

    Scratching against things

Will do - will do that tonite when I get home; I'll clean out the filter medium and just leave the filter itself (the spongy thing). Thanks all!

    Scratching against things

Salt: I had probably put in a few TBSP when initially setting up the tank; I add a little, little bit with water changes, and added a couple of TBSP yesterday. So I should keep adding it, it seems.

Thanks. --Yes, says to use a tsp. of Melafix per 10 gallons, so tonite a tbsp of the stuff, and the temp. will have probably reached about 81 by tonite - I'll bump it up another notch so it gets to 85 by, say, Thursday. --Yes, plastic plants. Was going to add real ones - now gonna hold off...

Whoops - I meant Melafix, not Metaflix.

    Scratching against things

Nuts. I've got 2 of my fish who are scratching against the plastic plants or in one case, the uptake valve to my filter. I've just added a bunch of fish, so this may be the culprit. Of course, my first worry is ICH, but so far visible evidence of that doesn't exist. A little tank history...

    Plants in an established tank?

Is it possible to add a plant or 2 in a tank that's established already (13 fish), pH about 7.1, no ammonia problems? I have an undergravel filter, so I'd be looking for something that I'd keep in the pots they come in, if possible. Would this hurt the fish, and if I can do this, any word on...

    Cory's

Thanks Thanks all. Really helps. PS - what's this "Kudos" stuff? And what's with the ratings? Newbie, Freak, etc.?

    Cory's

Can they handle a gravel bed? I've got gravel, with some of those smaller ultra stones covering the top. Bought 2 cories a week or so ago, and they seem to be fine -- just read a book, however, that recommends sand for 'em.

    Gouramis

Can gouramis and tiger barbs co-exist? any thoughts?

    General Tank Questions/Thoughts

Hello All, Currently I'm the proud owner of a 29G tank with 5 cherry barbs, 6 tiger barbs and 2 small spotted corys. Basically, things are running fine - but I just have a couple of questions as I'm nervous about one or two things. Brief history: the tank was originally set up in 1999 with 4...
