    are my tanks level enough?

I've got 5 tanks and only one of them is what I would consider "perfectly level". The others seem to be off a tiny bit and the bubble on the level is always between the black bars in the middle, but may be barely touching one of the bars every now and then. Also, the tanks are all more level...

    manufacturers of big tanks?

I'm trying to figure out where people get these big aquariums that are larger than the 210 (72X24X29). Do All Glass, Perfecto, or Oceanic make tanks bigger than the 210? I keep seeing these 7-ft and 8-ft tanks that look like production line stuff (at least from the pics). I know glasscages...

    fish native to Phillipines....

I have a friend that I'm setting a tank up for. He wants fish native to the Phillipines as his wife is from there. I need to know of tropical freshwater fish that are native to the Phillipines and would be suitable for a 29 gallon tank. Thanks.

    60" light fixture

I have found a 60" light fixture for my 60", 100 gallon aquarium. It is made by Perfecto. Am I gonna have a hard time finding the T-10 lights for that fixture?

Sometimes my fish room gets a little gamey. Anyone have any tips for keeping smells to a minimum? I mean, it doesn't reak or anything, just smells a little stale.

Anyone tried Sera or Dainichi foods?

I feed my Malawi cichlids NLS everyday. I know most everyone really likes NLS and for good reason, it seems to produce the best results and is a quality food. I just like to explore other possibilities and I like checking out other brands. I've seen some info in magazines and on the web about...

    plecos really cleaned-up!

I never had cared much for plecos but lately I've become a fan. Everyone has said how good at cleaning a tank they can be so I put some to the test by putting 2 in a 29 gallon holding tank that had that brown algae growing on the sides and bottom. Within 24 hours, these guys have the surfaces...

    Blue Jack Dempsey

I'm sold on blue dempseys now. I've talked to several people including those that have sold and kept them for years. I may keep 2 - 4 in a well-filtered 55 gallon tank. According to those I've spoken to, the less aggressive blue JD will do fine if kept with others of it's own kind. Like keeping...

    cycling with septic tank products

Okay. I've been trying to find some info on septic tank products that contain bacteria for cycling a new aquarium. The one I was initially told about was Wasteban or Waste Ban (WB). I actually watched a wholesaler and breeder of cichlids sprinkle some in a tank of young peacocks 2 weeks ago, the...

    prefilter sponge question

I use prefilter sponges on my tanks that have a sand substrate so sand doesn't get into my filter impellor as easily. Do these prefilter sponges provide much biological activity? I don't know if I need to be careful cleaning them or not.

    multiple Severums in a 55?

Is it possible to keep 2-3 Severums in a 55 gallon tank? Does anyone here have any experince with Severum and Severum tankmates? I think I may have asked a similar question to this months ago but you never know.....

combining sponge and HOBs for discus

I'm thinking of combing filtration systems. I've got an Emperor 400 for my 75 gallon tank that will house discus. I was planning on adding an AC 500 (110). I am putting prefilters on both. Is there an advantage to adding sponge filters too? Should I just use the Emperor 400 and add a couple...

    chlorine/chloramine test?

Is there a test that a hobbyist can purchase to test for chlorine or chloramine? I think my local water dept. may be able to provide this info but I want to make sure. I'm looking at discus and I need to figure out how I need to treat the water.

WANTED: 55 gallon tank w/top and light for grow out

I am looking for a 55 gallon tank to use as a grow out tank. It doesn't need to look good as it will not be shown. I need a top and light for it too. I live in Tifton, GA and I'll pick it up if it's close enough.

    100 gallon malawi update

Okay. I haven't been around in a while. I've been hanging out at the cichlid forum (which happens to be set up very similar to this forum) b/c I'm setting up an all-male hap/peacock show tank. My tank is an Oceanview 100 gallon tank that is 60X20X20. It is just the right size not to...

    fin rot on goldfish

I just noticed fin rot starting on a 3" goldfish I have in a 10 gallon tank. One tail fin is becoming frayed and has a whitish demarcation zone at the diseased/healthy junction of the fin. I checked the water and I'm running 0 ppm ammonia, .5 ppm nitrite, and 10 ppm nitrate. I did a 50% water...

    more Synodontis questions

Synodontis species experience needed I've been checking out some Synodontis for scavenging in my hap/peacock tank. I've seen references to S. multipunctatas and some to ocillifer. I've also seen petricola and nyassae metioned. The S. angelicus is a nice one I've seen on other sites. Can you...

how wide is a Pro 30 Bio-Wheel set up?

I'm trying to find out how wide a Pro 30 Bio-Wheel is so I can decide whether or not to get it. I have limited room on the back of my tank. I have called Drs. Foster and Smith and a rep said it was 8.5", which just may work. I called Marineland and a rep said it was 10". I'm tempted to...

    driftwood and pH

I've had some driftwood in a 29 gallon tank since March. It is covered with algae and the gouramis love it. I'm gonna break down this tank and use it as a QT when I set up my 180 gallon tank. The 180 will house Lake Malawi cichlids. I'd like to put the driftwood in the 180. Will the...

    concrete objects in tanks

I may like to put some concrete structures (like a pot or something) in an aquarium as decoratios but I'm afraid it may screw up the water. Does anyone put these objects in tanks? Some of the things I've seen look very appropriate (like a primitive looking vase or pot). To me, concrete looks...

aquarium prices going up? fish too?

With all the problems with gas prices being so high and all, have any of you heard anything about aquariums or fish prices really spiking due to increased shipping costs? I know they are going to increase some but I hope they don't get too cost-prohibitive. My lfs said he got a message last...

    DIY wet/dry sump idea

I'm not sure this belongs here but here goes. I'm thinking of getting a pre-drilled 180 gallon tank with overflows. I'd like to build a wet/dry sump filter. I'm thinking of using a 50 gallon rubbermaid container for my sump. I'd then like to take a 10 gallon rubbermaid tote, cut the bottom out...
