    Mini water bugs????

I've wanted to add a few feeder fish ever since my larger blue cray (in a separate tank) eventually ate the zebra danio that he shared his tank with for months. He used to swim into the cray's cave with no sign of aggression and then one day he was in pieces and being gorged upon. I will pick up...

    Mini water bugs????

They are barely visible I can't tell what particular shape they are. The just seem to be swimming around in a group. They don't swim like brine shrimp do, they seem to just float around. I wish I had access to a microscope.

    Mini water bugs????

Thanks for the info, should I be concerned? Now that I have had the pair mate twice I would hate to have to strip down the tank and restart, especially since the female has seemed to sequester herself and build herself a new cave that she hardly ever ventures from. She shows no signs of being...

    Mini water bugs????

I can't imagine where they may have come from, I haven't introduced anything new besides the food items I mentioned. These have just shown up within the past week or so and I have been using these same food items for months. They are definitely not cray babies, they don't crawl or land on plants...

    Mini water bugs????

In my 40 gal. breeder tank which houses a pair of Blue crayfish I recently noticed tons of miniscule "things" swarming around. They are too small to see exactly what they are. They remind me of those flying gnats you see clustered above the grass in the summer time. The only thing I feed the...

    Blue crayfish molted again!

My P. alleni molted on Halloween and then again last night. he seems to get a deeper blue with each molt. I removed the first shell mistakenly thinking it was the dead crayfish since I didn't see the molted cray at the time. I have read that they will eat their shells after a molt to ingest the...

    A birthday salvaged....

Thanks for the b'day wishes. Here's a shot of my adult male Procambarus alleni, the two juvenile P. alleni are too small and well hidden to photograph.

    A birthday salvaged....

Today is my 59th birthday and I had planned to go to Maryland to spend a few days with my son and his family but something came up and they had to cancel. One bright light is that when the mail came, there was a box addressed to me which contained an unrelated pair of electric blue crayfish...

    Lost almost all my fish

First, thanks for the kind words and well wishes. Secondly, I don't think I will get any more fish. I think I will keep this as a species tank for the blue crayfish and just keep the danio in there as a good luck charm.

    Lost almost all my fish

Due to Hurricane Sandy, I have been without any power since a week ago this past Sunday. My tank went from 75 degrees down to 48 due to no heat in the house. Of all my fish the only 2 survivors were the blue crayfish (which molted the other day, I thought I'd lost him too) and one lone zebra...

    Viewing crayfish at night?

Thanks Andrew, I looked into those bulbs, but before I spend money on them I ordered a red sleeve to go over my existing light for $4. If that doesn't work I may have to invest in a moonlight bulb. alLexX, I have had this elec. blue crayfish for just over a week.

    Viewing crayfish at night?

I want to watch my crays but being as they are nocturnal, if I turn on the lights at night they eventually retreat into their respective crevices. Would using a red light at night work the same as it does for reptiles and amphibians? I used to keep tree frogs and in order to observe them at...

    Filter help????

Thanks for the input Dan. I found replacement filter media resources on the web and my local fish store said they can get me an inlet tube that will fit. I do however have to get a new gravel vac, I have one from a an older tank but it's too small a diameter and sucks up the gravel and gets...

    Filter help????

Dan, I haven't set mine up yet I am waiting for a 3D background to be delivered. How well does that type of filter work, are you happy with it's results? Mine will be for a blue crayfish so I like the design of a completely closed aquarium, they are climbers and escape artists. I also need to...

    Filter help????

Dan, after waiting a week for a reply I got an e-mail from the company sales rep stating, and I quote, "You do not need that part as the water returns to the tank through the little holes under the filter." When I wrote back that I was still interested in getting the part because I wanted my...

    RCS and crayfish?

Not fast enough though...lol. I have a blue cray in my tank with zebra danios and black skirt tetras and he has taken out 4 danios and a tetra. I am going to be moving him to a species tank this weekend. There are also 2 flame gouramis in the tank which spend quite a bit of time low in the tank...

    Procambarus paeninsulanis vs P. alleni?

Aside from the names being different can anyone tell me the major differences in these two crayfish as far as behavior, husbandry, etc.? I have a P. paeninsulanis now and will soon be getting a pair of P. alleni. I know better than to attempt to keep them together but is the P. paeninsulanis...

    Flame gouramis hiding???

I guess that's possible. When they do come out to swim around, they don't look to be scared by the other fish and to be honest, the tetras zoom around alot more than the danios. Maybe I should set up a separate tank for the gouramis?

    Flame gouramis hiding???

I have a 30 gallon breeder tank with 2 male flame gouramis, 6 zebra danios and 6 black skirt tetras and an emerald cory. The gouramis most of the time seem to hide among the plants and tree root decorations. I have never seen them chased or bullied by any of the other fish or each other and come...

Cliff, I look forward to your pic. I am going to stick with freshwater so coral won't be an issue but thanks for the info all the same.

I just got a reply from the company that they have replacement parts, they will get back to me with a price. I'd rather have the proper parts for the filter but thanks for the feedback.:thumb:
