    Bloated danio

i definitely don't think it's dropsy. if anything i was worried maybe she's not able to release the eggs? is that even possible? i'll try the cooked pea tonight though. like i said, i don't think it's urgent or dangerous, but it definitely doesn't seem normal. thanks!

    Bloated danio

I have this danio that has looked like she's carrying eggs, but she's pretty much looked like this for the past year. Her size has never gone down much. She seems otherwise healthy, and has no trouble swimming, so I'm not too worried. Is it just eggs, or could there be something else going on?

    Fish Personalities

My distinctive ones get names, but not so much the schoolers. My male bettas get princess names, this is Princess Cookie from adventure time, and one was princess peach from Mario. The angel is frank. The Bolivian rams are Lenny and Squiggy. Still debating on the bristlenose. I call...

ADFs look like skin is falling off.

He's probably just shedding. They do that every so often as they grow. One of mine did tonight, it all came off in one piece, like a frog sock. It's kinda cool, kinda gross. They like to eat it too... Here's a bad picture of it:

    My friend and her beta

Poor thing. Think of all the stress and noise when kids slam their lockers, in the pitch black. :( It won't live long. If she doesn't care, there's not much you can do but report her. Hopefully she'll find some common sense.

    Mystery snails hatching

That's what I was hoping to avoid! Haha.

    Mystery snails hatching

I'm actually only hoping for a couple. After the last ones I can see drop off, I might just toss the rest. Thanks though. :)

    Cory egg pics

Just an update, they're getting big! Hard to get a good group photo, but about 14 or so made it.

Just thought I'd share, kinda cool. :)

    my fish tattoo

Yeah, the one on my shoulder blade just felt like someone was drawing on me hard with a pen. I almost fell asleep in the middle of it. The one on my shin... not so much. Also depends on the artist and what kind of machines or needles they're using, and how they have it tuned.

    my fish tattoo

Even if it's safe, I would just think it would burn!

    my fish tattoo

Needles are always disposable (in any shop worth their salt), but tubes and whatnot are autoclaved. Generally, the artists will have a portfolio in the lobby of the shop, look for clean lines and solid shading/color. If you don't know the artist before hand, I wouldn't go in expecting to get...

    Need help/advice

Looks like brown diatoms to me.

    4 month old tank

I wouldn't use tap water on the filters either. They still hold bacteria, and the chlorine in tap water will kill it. When you do water changes, it's good to swish it in the bucket of water you've removed, so you're not rinsing the gunk back into the tank.

    Water change mishap

Seriously! What are the odds! Haha @ the blonde. :)

    Water change mishap

She's out and about and eating blood worms, I think she'll be fine.

    Water change mishap

The peroxide was there to spot treat the algae. I don't typically keep cups of it laying around when I'm not actually using it... It's an African dwarf frog.

    Water change mishap

The tank was starting to look a little grungy, so I decided to do a big water change tonight and general cleaning. Vacuum under the bigger decorations I don't usually move, scrub off some of the black algae I've been battling. I didn't notice when I accidentally siphoned up my favorite ADF...

    Angelfish nipping at mystery snail

Is this normal? It sounds like it depends on the personality of the fish, as I have read both that they should be ok together, and that they can attack the larger snails. I have a large-ish (not quite golf-ball sized) gold mystery snail with a juvie angel who is not much bigger than the snail...

    Help!!! Im losing fish

Sounds like you're hitting the second stage of the cycle. Ammonia has dropped, and the second bacteria colony that converts nitrites into nitrates isn't established yet. Keep on top of water changes, and you can use Prime as a water conditioner as well as to detoxify the nitrites. Once you see...

    heavily stocked and filtration question.

Over filtration is great, especially if you're fully/over stocked. if you're worried about too much flow, you can find a way to soften it. Both plastic water bottles cut in half length-wise, and sponge filters (zimanski's suggestion) slit to cover the outflow work well. I use both on different...

    Plant id please

Rivercats, you are awesome. Thank you again. First google results say leaves can fall off in low light, which is what I have. Much appreciated.

    Plant id please

I got this plant (the reddish one) from petsmart, in one of those snail-free bags. It "says" it is fully aquatic, but I can't remember what it's called. I should start taking pictures of the labels... Anyway, it seems to be growing, and I think it looks good, but it sheds a lot of leaves. I'd...

Is this ich? I'm afraid of the answer...

The parasite can only survive so long without a host. I believe a week was the average of what was recommended over multiple sources to continue treatment after you see the last spot. I wouldn't count total days of treatment though, because the length of time for that last spot to drop off can...
