Help me stock my 50 Gallon

You could try the blue rams or bolivian rams. What about loaches and some gouramis?

    20g stocking suggestions?

I have tried in my 20 gal neon tetras (any tetra would be good), the livebearers, dwarf gourami, harlequins, dwarf rainbows, yoyo loaches, and bristlenose pleco. You could also do kribensis, blue rams, or corys are alright, too.

    Stocking 46 Gallon

Also gouramis, rasboras, livebearers maybe? A school of corys or some loaches, too.

Am I limited to Mollies, Tetras, Guppies?

I think there's lots of fish you could get for a 55 gal. Bala sharks is a good suggestion. A school of rainbowfish would be good too. Rasboras and danios would all work well too. And loaches would be fine. You could even try a couple angels.

    Moving...how to transfer fish?

I wouldn't advise moving it in the tank. You risk damaging the tank. Better off to dismantle it. I moved about an hour away with my tank and everything went just fine transporting them in a container. I didn't use an airstone but you should. You can get battery-operated ones at any petstore.

    Backgrounds

Yes, if you're going to get water behind it then you have to be able to get back there to dry it up. Mine is just taped on. It is a bunch of plants and so on. Hides the ugly cords. If you want black then check out some of the printed ones - the reverse side of mine is black. Also - very...

I am using dechlorinator now. No diff.

    still no luck

My water is not toxic. We've been through this before. Many people keep fish in this city on the same water supply. Sensitive fish even. Plus, I've moved in the past 2 years and my problems followed. I do not have a large variety of fish to choose from here. I've never seen a tang lake...

    Driftwood Questions

I have a piece of mopani wood I bought. I bought it at Petland (Canadian store). It has sunk and stays at the bottom. I soaked it approximately 24 hours in a tub of dechlorinated water and then put it in the tank. After about 72 hours it was fully submersed of its own free will. I haven't...

    still no luck

Recap: original 20 gal setup in summer of 2003. Stocked over time with various livebearers & tetras. Could not sustain any fish. All died, wasted away, after several months generally. Tore down tank in March and reassembled with all new filters, gravel, decor, everything. Currently...

planning ahead for my 20 gal...

Alright, so I'm jumping the gun here. Currently cycling the second attempt at a 20 gal tank. I have been cycling about 3.5 weeks and no ammonia but nitrites keep getting high so I am doing water change every couple days. However, I am trying to plan what I would like in the tank and try not...

Everybodys Favorite FW Fish!!! Have fun with this post!

For schooling fish I'd have to say Harlequin Rasboras, for the short time I had a small school, they were SO active and entertaining and showed good schooling behaviour.

    loaches in 20 gal?

Are there any types of loaches that would do well in a 20gal? Or are they all too large. I really like clowns :) but I know they would get too big

    fish are still dying

I have tried to change the pH before. It is damn near impossible and all you end up with at the end is an unpredictable pH that can swing. No thanks. What possible difference could squeezing a sponge make? It's not like you're going to squeeze out the bacteria.

    fish are still dying

I can't lower my pH. Not without alot of trouble and chemical. I don't think that is a good idea. I just have to work with my pH. Don't Angels get too big for a 20gal??? Should I be changing my filter media during this time or not? I noticed my sponge is quite dirty from the driftwood...

    fish are still dying

My history is I have been trying to keep fish for 2 years unsuccessfully. Sometimes they last 3-4 months, but that's it. People keep telling me livebearers are inbred. It's only 20 gal and cichlids are too big. Tetras are too sensitive. I'm running out of fish. I've posted my water...

    fish are still dying

Subsequent to the posts below... For all purposes I basically have brand-new everything 20 gal tank, 10 days old. I had one rainbow and one bristlenose pleco in there. I went to the fish store Sat to get more fish. I got 6 Harlequin Rasboras. Figured I should try something new since I had...

restarted tank - need more help!

Okay - well I did all the tests and indeed just a glass of tap water left alone will rise to 8.0 overnight. A whole pH unit. So I think it must be the dissolved CO2 issue. I think I will just "go with the flow" as suggested. However, I have a question - if everytime I do a partial water...

restarted tank - need more help!

My tank is too small for cichlids. It is a 20 gal. I removed the rock yesterday and did a massive water change. The pH dropped after that to 7.6 or so. I added driftwood. This morning I retested and it's back up to 8.0. I can't have an aquarium with massive pH swings like this! I need to...

restarted tank - need more help!

I am not going to use all RO water. I will quit before I do that. Many people that live right beside me manage to have fish tanks with tap water. Why can't I? I started a 20 gal two years ago. pH was always high and water very hard. I moved to where I live now and decided to restart the...

restarted tank - need more help!

Hi. I don't know if you all remember but I posted awhile ago about my tank dilemmas. General consensus was to strip it all down and start over. So that's what I did. New EVERYTHING. I restarted with one bristlenose pleco and one dwarf rainbow in there to cycle the tank. My water initially...

    My Tank Saga

My current tap water parameters are above. Should I just use it straight or continue mixing with the distilled? You've all sold me on the dechlor so I will start doing that. My filter components end up being changed once monthly. That is too much? How do you heat the water before water...

    My Tank Saga

If it's my tap water - why can 30 000 other people in the city raise fish successfully? Here's a piece of history I didn't mention. I moved about a year ago and when I did, I moved the whole tank, with all the fish (about an hour's move). Anyways, the water in my old town was much harder...

    My Tank Saga

Well, thanks for the ideas. I guess to start with I should mention I have tried chemicals to lower the pH but the water is so hard in the tank is really doesn't budge. I've thought of cichlids because I know they like that water but it's only a 20 gallon and most cichlids that I've seen would...

    My Tank Saga

About a year and a half ago I decided to start a freshwater tank, I had always wanted fish. I went and bought a 20 gallon tank, set it up and let it cycle as recommended and started it with guppies. Since then I have tried guppies, platies, neons, dwarf gouramis, australian rainbows and one...
