    Making room for HOB filter

I have a glass top over my tank. I bought a HOB filter. Now here is the question. There is a plastic piece on the end of the glass top. What do you use to cut this piece of plastic to make room for the filter and other things? My scissors aren't that strong to go through it, at least I don't...

    Ro Water and Testing

Is it possible to use the master test kit by AP to measure RO water? Or do I have to get a conductivity meter that I have been hearing about. I'm about ready to set up my tank with RO water and want to know how I will be able to test the pH and KH of the water.

    RO System

I just purchased an RO system because of my water being described as "liquid rock" and a high ph of 8.4. Is there anyone that has a RO system who would help me in setting it up right for my aquarium. What I mean is how do I add back in the necessary minerals back in the water (use RO Right? How...

    New 10 Gallon

I was just given a 10 gallon tank. Any ideas on how I can stock it? I'm used to a little bigger tank and haven't a clue as to what is good in a 10 gallon.

    Nitrite Level

I've been cycling a 5 gallon tank for a few weeks now. The ammonia levels have been coming down about a week (its a 2 ppm), however, so far, I do not have any readings for nitrites. I thought when the ammonia starts coming down that I should be getting some nitrites. Is this the case?

    Question about PH

I have a question about ph. I am going through a fishless cycle so I don't have any fish yet. I tested the ph of my tap water to see what it was while I am waiting. I put some water in a cup and sat it out for 24 hours. The ph in the cup was about 8.0. That is very high. I wanted to keep a...

    20 Gallon Tank Suggestions

In addition to my 5 & 75 gallon tank, I just inherited a 20 gallon tank. After it is cycled, I plan on putting in 6 Threadfin Rainbows, 5 Otos, and a pair of gold rams. Is that a good combination of fish for a 20 gallon?

    Filter Question

I noticed a lot of posts that say don't change the gravel in the filter. I have a small 5-gallon tank and a Whisper Economy filter. It uses a biobag as the filter material. It looks like a bag with charcoal in it. What do I do with this? Keep cleaning it with water from the tank? When it...

    ph Question

am in the process of cycling a 20 gallon tank. It has been 6 days now and the ammonia is at 8 ppm. My question is about pH though. I tested the pH in the aquarium and it registered 8.0. I then tested the pH of my tap water and it was 7.4. Does the cycling process raise the pH of the water? Or...

    Hello From Illinois

This is my intro. I live in Illinois and have always had an interest in aquariums. I had a 75 gallon aquarium years ago (1982) and am now just starting to get back into it. Of course, everything has changed since I last had an aquarium, so I am using this forum to get the information that I...
