First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

That’s the weird part is there was no sign of the missing fish at all, no scales or tail or anything it’s just gone. Plus the underwater knob on the sprinkler was turned off sooo I have no idea what happened. Sounds like we should move the fish over sooner than I thought! Good to know.

First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

Good to know, thanks. Apparently the biggest fish has mysteriously disappeared, probably a raccoon or a bird got it. The big fish always stayed close to the bottom though so the animal would have had to dive in there and grab it...that might explain why the sprinkler was pushed over and turned...

First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

Actually there is one other part of the filter I saw, the outflow tube connects to a sprinkler/fountain that sticks out in the middle of the tub and sprays water so it provides some aeration. I didn’t get a chance to unplug the filter and actually look inside

First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

Sorry it took me so long to reply. This is apparently a heavy duty filter! I ordered some replacement cartridges for my mom and she’s going to find out when the previous owner last changed it. I’m not sure what the other components of the filter are since it’s actually made for a pool, not a...

First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

Thanks for the reply! After some research I think they’re shubinkin...does that seem right? They’re about 5” long and they’ve been in the tub for over a year I think. I tested the water today just for ammonia and nitrites and they’re both 0 so obviously there’s a bacterial colony which is...

First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

Thanks for the reply. I did think they would be over-stocked but it sounds like they have some time. How many full grown fish do you think would fit without causing issues? Also do you by chance recognize the filter or can you tell if it’s enough turnover for 40 gallons?

First Time Outdoor Fish Owner - Help!

Hi all, My parents recently moved into a new house and inherited a claw-foot tub full of goldfish. They have no experience keeping outdoor fish and neither do I, though I’m pretty experienced with indoor freshwater fish so I’m trying to help them...by asking for help [emoji846] I’ve included...

    Chillers?

I struggled with this every summer in my old non-air conditioned apartment and I didn't have the money to get a chiller so I have some tips. I live in Portland, Oregon so we would have weeks where it was 90+ every day and then it would lower back down to the eighties for a bit. During those...

    CO2 Working Pressure Fluctuating

And again, the timer is off so the valve is closed and the psi is back up to 50-60 but I can tell from the drop checker that the co2 was definitely not flowing at all while I was at work today

    CO2 Working Pressure Fluctuating

Ok I did the soapy water test and didn't see any bubbles so I think it's the regulator. It's an Archaea co2 regulator [pro] single gauge w solenoid valve. An O ring came with it but the instructions never say to use it, they just say to wrap the tank threads with Teflon tape and hand tighten...

    CO2 Working Pressure Fluctuating

It doesn't stop completely, co2 still comes out but only around 5 bubbles per second and the guage is definitely open more than that. To add to the confusion I just checked the guage and the psi is back up to 60!! The co2 has been off for about 25 minutes. Not sure why it's doing this

    CO2 Working Pressure Fluctuating

Well I have it on a timer and I always hear it click when it turns on and off - I just heard it now as it's turning off for the night. Does that mean it's probably a leak and not the solenoid/regulator? I still haven't soap tested it but I plan on it tonight

    CO2 Working Pressure Fluctuating

No I haven't tried spraying soapy water, I will do that and see what happens. The regulator is an Archaea Co2 Regulator Pro single guage. It came with the co2 starter kit from the lfs. I knew it wouldn't be the highest quality but it's literally only made it through 1 tank change! That's...

    CO2 Working Pressure Fluctuating

Hello, I am fairly new to running co2 in my tank, I've been doing it for about 6 months. About 2 months ago I got a new co2 tank because my first was empty (I want to have 2 so I can refill one while the other is running). I just moved the regulator onto the new tank per the instructions and...

    29 gal Lighting Recommendations

I've had my current light fixture for way too long and I'm looking to replace it. I have a 29 gallon tank, 30x12x18", with a 24" dual lamp T5 HO Aquatic Life light. I think it's been discontinued because I can't buy it anywhere...here's a link to it on Amazon...

    Apistogramma Question

Ok so I took back the one getting beat up (I wanted to take back the dominant male but I couldn't catch him ?) and the manager at the lfs really thinks it's a female and that I have a male/female pair. He did say that sometimes they just don't get along even if they're male/female so he let me...

    Apistogramma Question

It's 30x12x18 which according to the internet is actually 29 gallons....so that's cool. Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Apistogramma Question

Ok well I'll take one back. Does this mean the problem is 2 males and not that 25 gallons is too small for 2 rednecks? Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Apistogramma Question

He is such a dick head! So I just took some pics but their lights have been off for a while so they were a little camera shy. The male is the top one and the female is the bottom one Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Apistogramma Question

I went to the fish store last week and fell in love with some apistogramma macmasteri. They called them rednecks and sold them in pairs. I googled them and I couldn't find any definitive answer about what tank size they require so I asked the manager if I could have a pair in a 25 gallon tank...

Glofish Tetra and Cycling Tank? New to all of this...

Hi :) a fishless cycle actually requires cycling before you buy fish, so it's a little late for that. You will need to do a fish - in cycle. There are some great articles online, but basically you need to buy a water test kit for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, which you can get at any fish...

    Rasboras Randomly Dying

Definitely no agression from the other fish, sometimes the rasboras square up with each other but it's not usually that bad. I had a problem with some excess brown algae on my plants a few weeks ago.... I checked and had .25 ammonia but I did a big water change and it stayed 0 after that...
