I had a snail find it's way into my three gallon that is currently cycling. He's been in there for a week or so now. Seems to be doing fine. But it's a pond snail and they can live in almost anything. I guess it would depend on the type of snail it is.

Unless the platies are all females, I wouldn't just get one male swordtail. They can become aggressive when they are flying solo. Having at least three to four females usually helps.
