    Dosing KNO3 causes cloudy water

Thanks for the photos and tips. I haven't had the time to work on it yet. I am currently repairing the results of a brain fart on my part. I accidentally reformatted the data drive on my PC, while attempting to reinstall my operating system on my OS drive. With my data recovery software...

    Dosing KNO3 causes cloudy water

Thanks for the replies. I will test the dosing into the a cup of water. I have no reference for the dry ferts, as I never used them before. I ordered them directly from rexgriggs.com. The measurer may not be the most accurate, but it isn't too bad. Once the water turns cloudy, if I don't...

    Dosing KNO3 causes cloudy water

Greetings, For some reason, when I dose KNO3 into my tank, within a day, the water turns mildly cloudy. It then takes at least a week to clear, with water changes. I was following the directions on the fert bag, to end up with 11 ppm NO3, then tried cutting it in half, with the same...

    Cheap micron filter

I was very surprised myself. I have been fighting green water for probably 5 weeks now. My daughter is very happy that she can see the fish now. :D The openings of the filter are larger than a standard cork size, so bear that in mind when getting it. I also tried simply duct taping the...

    Cheap micron filter

Greetings, I found a relatively inexpensive micron filter in response to my need to get rid of green algae. Initially, I purchased a 295GPH powerhead and a Hagen Quick Filter attachment, which I had read here worked well to filter algae. Unfortunately, the filter was no where near fine enough...

    lighting requirement for 90g tall

My bulbs do indeed run the length of the aquarium, however there are only two light sockets. The fixture is set up for two dual light bulbs. I can go with a lower wattage bulb, but they are shorter and would only cover about 2/3 of the tank length. Assuming that there isn't much of an issue...

    lighting requirement for 90g tall

Thanks for the assistance! I missed the part regarding the 25% per 4" above 24". Must have been reading too fast. :D I think I will get another 50/50, giving me 96 Watts. The only downside is that the current USA Sunpaq 50/50 have only 10000K white light, where the dual daylight (no...

    lighting requirement for 90g tall

My tank is 35" x 17" x 31" tall . Actually, I misread the results. At 144W I am right in the middle of high and very high. regards, Gary

    lighting requirement for 90g tall

Thanks for that link! :D It doesn't take into account depth, however. Don't you think this has an effect, since my tank depth is 30"? The link said that my tank was right at very high lighting. :o Regards, Gary

    lighting requirement for 90g tall

Greetings, I had my 96W dual daylight CF give out and am looking at what to replace it with. I am only growing low light plants, and no CO2, and have been running 1 - 96W dual daylight CF and 1 - 50/50 actinic/daylight. The 90G "tall style" tank depth is 30" to the gravel from the light. I...

Could I get a few Rams??

If you are looking for color, what about Gourami's? My Neon Blue and Sunset dwarfs afe stunningly colorful, as well as my full sized blue and gold ones. Rainbows are also extremely colorful. My Bosemani's are outstanding. Regards, Gary

    Neons and what else?

I would also say a dwarf Gourami or two. I have a neon blue and a sunset, and they are beautiful. The actinic bulb I run makes the blue in both fish look electric. Regards, Gary

post a pic of your planted tank!!

Thanks Sudz! Well, since the second light is a 50/50 Daylight/Actinic, only 45W's of the light count to the equation, as I understand it. This would make my tank around 140W per 90 Gal, or 1.55WPG. BTW, the background is just the plain old photo type. It is adheared with vegetable oil...

post a pic of your planted tank!!

Thanks! It remains to be seen how the rockpile will pan out. I have already had to remove a few rocks until I could find my blue gourami, which had gotten stuck in a mini cave! I am hoping that as the fish get more used to the tank, that they will stay out of the tight spots. Regards, Gary

    Daylight and Actinic Bulbs

Actinics aren't useless, at least to me, as I like the way they bring out the blues on my fish. I have a 90W dual daylight and a 90W 50/50 daylight/actinic. The 45W's of actininc make the color more pleasing to my eyes. Regards, Gary

    high nitrAte

Hey Jason, You could always test the cycle, by dosing some ammonia, taking a reading, then seeing if your ammonia and nitrates drop back at 0 the next day. If they do, then you are cycled. Regards, Gary

    looking for Sunset Hygro

Greetings, I have a new low-mid light tank that is 30" tall. I am looking for fast growing background plants that will reach the top of the tank, but I can't find Sunset Hygro anywhere. I will pay a reasonable price for the plants and shipping. Thanks for looking! Gary

pros and cons of canister and HOB filters?

My Aquaclear 70 HOB's are very quiet, as long as the water level is right up to the output of the filter. I can hardly hear them with the whine of the fan on my Current-USA Satellite lighting fixture! Gary
