    Newly Planted 20g - video

I updated my 20 gallon. I removed the standard aquarium stones (pink/blue) and then planted the entire tank. The tank has been up and running two weeks with Co2. I'm in the process of updating the lights and have ordered and received EI to have as fertilizer. Should start dosing today if I...

Where do you buy your light?

Oh, that's interesting. I need to google how that would be done. Doh. For what it's worth, it makes me feel good to hear you say that. I told my boyfriend what I'd done and he laughed so long and hard. I did order a T5 light fixture, so I'm hoping that I can just get things reorganized...

Where do you buy your light?

Thank you for pointing that out. In my utter newness to all of this I didn't realize what I'd done until the T5's arrived and I realized there is no way I could exchange the T8's out for the new bulbs. Gah! So now it's time to upgrade the fixture!

    Stuck fish

Just this last week I found my little frog (fw) sucked up into a Marineland 400 power-head. I turn it on during the day and off during the night and have no idea if it died and got sucked in, if it got sucked in while it was on, or if it had crawled into the crevices during the night and then...

Where do you buy your light?

Would either of these be a reasonable option? F24/T5/HO/865 - 6500 Kelvin - T5 High Output Programmed Start | 1000Bulbs.com

Where do you buy your light?

I had wandered over there earlier and kept finding cases of forty bulbs. I think I need to go look again.

Where do you buy your light?

I currently have the standard hood/light set up and I think I need to upgrade my bulb to a T5HO bulb. (24 in). I know that two T5HO bulbs would probably be ideal. But without a major upgrade in lighting, that won't happen for at least a couple months. Meanwhile, can someone point me in the...

    Circulator Pump and Frogs

It's the Marineland Maxi-Jet 400. There wasn't a screen in the box that it came with and I'm having a hard time finding one online. :think

    Circulator Pump and Frogs

I have, or rather had, two dwarf frogs in my 55g fw and yesterday I noticed that one of the frogs was MIA. I figured she'd just crawled up under the driftwood. Unfortunately, I later noticed that she was in the circulator pump completely dead. :( I have no idea if she was sucked in and...

    Plants good for beginners

I added some floating water lettuce today to my aquarium and love the look. The water lettuce is super easy to maintain and grows well.

    First fish tank, please help

You can put all those fish together. I agree that the neon tetras can be a bit sensitive to water conditions. I have had really good luck with male guppies. Of course, I'm partial to male guppies. I think they're incredibly beautiful and come in a wide variety of colors.

New 125 gallon tank! Bought today

Do you know if the tank was freshwater? I keep trying to imagine what that middle column could be used for. Does the tank have any manufacturers information? It might be interesting to do some research on it.

    Novice w/29g - advice appreciated

The brown is probably tannins from the driftwood. I adopted a pleco from a middle school student who had purchased him a year ago. The pleco came to him only a couple inches long. In a year it was right at a foot. Just measured him today in in only a couple months he's now grown another inch.

New 125 gallon tank! Bought today

I am zero help. Totally jealous of your find. My only consolation is I do not have room for a six foot tank. Mostly wanting to follow along to see the progress!

    55 gallon and a pleco

I think I was assuming the true "common pleco" was the Hypostomus. Although, maybe "common pleco" is just a generic umbrella term. That link you have suggests a size of about 13.5 inches. Another link suggests a size of up to 27 inches. Doh. Those preacox rainbows are really pretty. I...

    55 gallon and a pleco

Okay a little research and I have found that what I have may actually be a Pterygoplichthys pardalis and not the common Pleco I was told he is. (See belly below in image number one and number of dorsal rays in the second image.) I'm reading conflicting information about how big these fish...

    55 gallon and a pleco

I have a Pleco that I'm moving to a 55 gallon tank. (Currently fish-less cycling. will be a bit before the move happens.) I would love to add more fish to the 55 gallon to hang out with the Pleco. I'm seriously considering group of schooling fish. Thoughts include: rummynosed tetras Neon...

    New and Learning

An image of the 55 gallon I set up yesterday. I'm using some rocks and old filters as seed for the new tank. The filter is on the front for the time being because I'm waiting for paint to dry on the back of the tank. (Lights are on just for pictures sake.) I ordered a test kit from Amazon...

    New and Learning

George is an odd fish. He gets algae wafers. (Maybe more often then he should? One in the a.m. and another at night.) He also loves zuchini, broccoli, and spinach (1x/week). He came to me from a ten gallon tank that was essentially just a tank with gravel. The 11 year old who gave him to me...

    New and Learning

Hi, Wanted to officially (resisted the urge to write "oh-fish-ally") introduce myself. I'm new to the forum, although, I have periodically read through a few of the threads to gather information about how to set up and cycle tanks. I have a 20 gallon which I cycled back in July. The 20 g is...
