I will like to see how this turns out for you as I too want to do the same thing. Maybe since you are providing shade then a fan will keep the temperature down.

Oh nice. Yeah I don't think it gets too hot there as it does here in the Central Valley fresno county area. We get a good amount of triple digits temperatures.

Im not much of an expert but I'm also looking into a shrimp tank so I've done some research. Sponge filters are the best for shrimp. As for food I've seen shrimp pellets at my lfs. But Algae pellets or wafers will do the job. Leaving the lights on for a long time and getting algae on the back...

Yea the slime is on the wood. I heard plecos enjoy eating it. I can't get a clear picture because I scrub it off 2 days ago.

I'd say it's like 2 feet. I can soak it in the tub with really hot water before I put it in. I'm still trying to get the water clear.
