    HELP weird infection of GSP

Today I noticed that my Green Star Polyps were not opening like they should. It also looked as if parts of it were ill. I picked it up and moved it into better view, and there were small whitish patches on one side. They have a weird, hole-covered look to them and when touched with a skewer they...

    Change in filtration

Since I started my tank I have used a hang on back filter which came with the tank alongside my canister and refugium. It is pretty much backup at this point, and barely causes enough water flow to matter. I want to remove it and use something more affective, like a skimmer, but I'm worried that...

Zoas not opening all the way

About a month ago, my dwarf angel went bananas in my tank and began picking at most corals, causing a good bit of stress for them. I quickly removed it from the tank, and now everything has opened back up except my zoas. They open about halfway at most, and aren't open for very long. Parameters...

    Clownfish smothering BTA

Ok, thanks. The fact that this anemone has lived so long is a mystery to me, but I'm probably going to get a larger one in the near future. If I kept it separate and put the large one in first, would there be any chance that I could keep both alive, or will this particular nem be a constant...

    Clownfish smothering BTA

Hello everyone. For the past several months I have been having a recurrent problem with my BTA. I purchased it about seven months ago, and it acclimated well to the tank with good tentacle extension, color, and little movement. It did great for about a month, until I introduced a pair of percula...

    Gorgonian Feeding

Yesterday, I received an online order of what I had been told were photosynthetic gorgonians. I had my doubts upon seeing them, and once I got them in the tank their white polyps have them away. They are positioned right below the outflow of my refugium, and the polyps have been extended since i...

    Mystery clown

Hello. Sixth months ago I purchased two clownfish from my LFS. They were sold as "nano ocellaris" clowns. They were under an inch long, but proportionate to any normal clown, so I figured they were just immature specimens. Sixth months later they are about an inch and a half each and seem to be...

    Gorgonian id

Hello everyone. Today, a I received an online order in the mail. One of the items, which was labeled "purple sea whip", looks nothing like any purple sea whip I have seen. It has good polyp extension and is in high flow and mod. Lighting. It also ate when I tried spot feeding it. Any ideas what...

    Weird strands on glass

    New pond filtration

Hello everyone. This summer I will be assisting my parents in redoing their pond. It is pretty crappy right now and they want to fix it up. I am more knowledgable in the saltwater world and have little experience with ponds. Any advice on what kinds/brands of filtration to use? The pond is...

That is what I thought at first, but upon closer inspection it is stuff to the touch, like an LPS coral. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Hitch hiking coral?

Several days ago, I purchased a rock which was mainly populated by orange ricordeas. The guy at the lfs pointed out a greenish growth also on the rock, however he did not charge me for it. Any ideas what it is? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Mandarin and pipefish?

Hello, Recently, I lost many of my fish to an aggressive wrasse. The wrasse has been removed, but it killed my green mandarin that I had had for nearly a year. My question is, would I be able to house a green mandarin with a blue striped pipefish? I would like to replace my mandarin, but I also...

    Fish dying- six lined wrasse?

Hello. Around two weeks ago, I witnessed my six lined wrasse killing my mandarin goby. This was the only aggression I have wet seen from it, but since then small fin nips or marks on the skin of my ocellaris clowns have been common. Today I came home to te smaller of them dead, with its fins...

    Adding rock

Hello. I am looking to add a bit more rock to my aqua scape so that I can fit more corals in my tank. I have heard that adding too much rock at one time can create a mini cycle due to dead material on it. Is there any type of rock that I could avoid this with, and if not, would boiling it first...

    A huge bloom in algae

I had this same problem when I upgraded lights, try water changes, removing it manually and getting some kind of algae grazing snail or fish. My kole tang worked great for algae removal Feeshna

    New 14 biocube I'd help

It is normal for rock in new tanks to develop different varieties of algae. This will go away as your tank cycles, and it ca take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Try cutting back on lighting if you want to slow its growth. Feeshna

    Gorgonian id

I got this about a month ago from a local frag swap. They said that it is photosynthetic, but I still feed it every once I a while just in case and it is growing nicely. Any ideas what type it is? Thanks. Feeshna
