Its a brackish water seaweed. Your wood probably came from a brackish water inlet somewhere and still contained the "seed" plant.

If you have another aquarium you can transfer over some filter media and stock light or request some filter media from your LFS and seas with that. I have set up the filter i intend to use on an existing setup for a week of two before i set up the new quarters... Then stock light and transfer...

Try and catch the females with eggs and let the drop in the box.. Then remove them and raise the babies.... I keep moss in the boxes with the babies until they are 1/4" then i set them free. So far about 15 to 20 survive each drop to 1/4". I dont know if that's more than just letting them do...

I went ahead and broke everything down and did a major cleaning... Added a bunch of Ricca and duckweed to break the light intensity and removed the surface skimmer. Added a small CO2 system, and a hydor 240 to get things moving... I Pruned all algae leaves and added some contortion vallisneria...

The plants are all real. It is Anubis sp.
