Hi All, I just noticed that 2 of my Lemon Tetras have a white cotton-like "patch" on one side of their body. On one of them I can see tiny red flecks around the edges of it. Aside from these problems, the affected fish appear normal in every respect.....eating well, very active, etc...

My Lemon Tetras do this, too.......daily. I mostly notice it right after lights on in the morning.......after they all "wake up", the games begin. Lots of times I'll see it immediately after feeding time, too.

Thanks for all the help and links! I ended up taking my current bulb into Petsmart just to be sure I got the right one. As it turns out, it is an 18" T8. How often is it recommended to replace these bulbs?? Thanks again :D .

It doesn't say much.......it just says TFC Bioplant FL 15BR. Just guess-timating, it looks like the diameter of the bulb is roughly 1 inch, and has the 2 pins on either side. Thanks so much for your help on this :D .

Yes, I do have test kits, but only for Ammonia, Nitrite, & Nitrate. Ammonia & nitrites are 0. Nitrates do not get above 5-10 ppm prior to weekly PWC. I don't have tests for phosphate, kh, and gh. WPG??? Watts per gallon? If so, I've got a 15 watt fluorescent on the tank. No live plants...

Hi All.... My 20 gall has been up & running for just over 2 months now. All of the fish are doing great. I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that brown algae is coming up on the gravel, the silk plants, and the decorations. It's not severe.....but it's definitely not attractive...

Check your water level.......if it's a mechanical noise, make sure your impeller housing is fitted correctly in the filter box, and check to be sure nothing is blocking the impeller from rotating. Also, make sure the biowheel is seated correctly.

I have the Penguin 150 and mine did the same thing for a couple of days. Adjusting the water level helped quite a bit until the bio-wheel got through the "break-in" period. Now I don't hear it at all as long as the water level is high enough. HTH!
